Have a look at his recent record. It's crap! When I read his name I was excited but it'd be more dogs home than rock the city. Yeah, that's fair enough. First reaction is 'Wow', while the second is more of a 'Oh'. And the third is 'Hmm' with the cruciate and record record. Interesting one though. Hard to see him as a potential club record man, especially when Fiorentina had supposedly agreed a 2-yr loan with option to buy. Doesn't seem a No.9 type either. That was pretty much exactly my reaction. For the right price/deal it would seem like a decent deal but he's not record feeable. Or close imo. He seems ideal to play behind the striker and be a Bojan replacement?

Seemed to start from the left wing for Las Palmas last season. Still looks lively though!

The reality is if he'd already fulfilled his potential then we'd have no chance of signing him!
He could be just the sort of player needed to add some punch to our ineffective front line.
He can play anywhere across the front and brings with him top flight experience from Spain and albeit a little from France.
Choupo has had injuries in the past but his 20 min cameo yesterday proves that a calculated gamble could very well pay off.
Ultimately I'd rather have this guy as an option on the bench instead of last seasons option of Walters!

I agree with what you've said, but for once, just once, a bit of positive reaction on here from certain posters would be nice. Just to be positive? Why happy clap? The reality with Jese is that on the face he's exactly like Bojan was before we signed him but he's already got the ACL. He'd be a gamble. One worth taking if the fee is right but anything north of 10m for him would seem ott. There's a difference between being positive and happy clapping, as you call it. You are well known as one of the most negative posters on here. Regarding Jese, yes he would be a gamble, just like every other signing we could make.

They are but he seems like a big one when you actually look at where his career has been these last 3 years. We need some quick wins, not some bloke who may or may not make a difference and has a lot of questions against him. The fee is the make or break though. A big amount of money would seem crazy.

Is this possibly with a view to playing Choupo in a more central role as Hughes said he could play anywhere across the front ?

This would come down to price. He would add attacking options down either flank and a decent backup as a forward/false 9.
Signing him could free up Joselu and or Bojan to leave if thats whats going to happen anyway and also free up Diouf to play up front.
All in if this guy is as cheap as he should be given his last couple seasons we could end up with more money in the bank and a smaller wage bill.
There is also a great player in there somewhere. Zidane once called him the natural successor to C.Ronaldo at Madrid. Evidently that didnt happen... But we arent Madrid.

People say we need more pace in the team, well this lad has plenty of it.

Watching YouTube, lots of stepovers, flicks, turns, deflected shots, very little in terms of power and hold up play. Looks like a winger to me, which is bizarre considering we have Shaq, Choupo, Ramadan, Diouf who can all play as the wide forward/winger.
Smacks of Hughes chasing another big name who does nothing to address the obvious deficiencies we have.

We've got bigger issues. We've also got two youngsters who are being pushed further and further away from the pitch.

He does seem to primarily play in the position where we've got Choupo, Sobhi and Verlinden in the queue.
There may be nothing in it as stories like this come and go all the time in the European press, but would have thought a proper No.9 would be on the agenda.

He's on a reported £75,000 a week at PSG. So wages wouldn't be a problem...
Stoke lacking ambition ?.....I'll wait until Aug 31st, then judge!

They reckon he's on 7m/yr. This morning, La Nazione states that Jese has chosen Stoke City as his next destination after they made a sudden surge forward in negotiations and offered to buy him outright.

I don't know much about him but is that true, he's played slightly more than a handful of games the last couple of years?
Why can't we just sign a player who is on form and regularly playing?
I've had a cruciate injury and had surgery from a top surgeon myself, I can't see how any player who relies on pace, twisting and turning, being the same after that injury so the fact he has barely played since should tell you something stoke

Certainly makes sense with what Dave was saying last night.

Possible a good sign that MH has recognised we need more pace attacking. Yesterday Saido wasn't even in the game, he was that isolated that near to end of first half I had to check the pitch to see if he was actually on.
If Jese came is this a sign we are going back to 4-2-3-1 formation: GK RB. CD. CD. LB CM. CM chopper - Shaq - Jese. CF
With Shaqiri in middle his best position and 2 speedy skillfull wingers who can change sides during the game this should give our centre forward more support and service.

He's as good a player as we could hope to attract really. Seems to have struggled recently but if he hadn't we wouldn't even have a chance of signing him.

Interesting one
His recent struggles don't sound too promising but he's certainly worth a gamble at the right price. What the right price is these days I don't know. I don't think we'll be getting him for less than £20m in today's world though will we?
I think an important factor in this is as well, is the overall impact of signing somebody like Jese would have.
My initial reaction and seemingly most others on here was 'Wow' and you can guarantee that it will be an eye opener for the neutral too.
With Arnie's comments, and the recent media coverage about our ambition, it could go a good way to fixing the some of the negative feeling towards the club from the outside.
I'm not saying that this is the reason to sign him; we have to be confident that he can contribute first and foremost, but if ever a club was in need of a 'statement' then it's us right now. It would show the outside world (and prospective new signings) that we aren't just shutting up shop.

This is precisely the sort of player we don't need.
We need a battle hardened, aggressive centre forward who knows where the net and is familiar with the lone role.
