My understanding is that this is always the case unless the manager is in breach of contract. The length of contract and value of it has to be paid in full by the club. How come you believe differently? I think I read that Louis van Gaal got X as a severance, and it was less than the full value of his contract. In the United States, coaches generally have clauses stating how much they will get if they are sacked early. In one case of a college coach, they waited until New Year's Day to sack him because the severance was less if he was sacked in the new calendar year. American teams tend to sack less frequently than English football teams by the way. Could the frequency of less sackings in the MLS compared to England be down to no relegation spots in the US?

I was one calling for de Boer after last season. To be fair sacking managers after 3 games is a bit extreme. We were stuck at the bottom after 6 games the last two seasons. He does look out of his depth at the moment De Boer probably would be more suited to Stoke than to Palace. Stoke have some Barcelona trained players for whom that style is not out of their comfort zone; and for the Pulis recruits, Hughes has either gradually trained them to play a more passing style (possibly to the detriment of their defensive skills) or sold them to other teams.

I think that definitely plays a role, though in English football it seems that managers well safe of relegation are sacked just as often as managers of struggling teams. For a while the Yankees were famous for sacking managers frequently, but it was no more frequent than English football teams sack their managers.

These clubs think a flavour of the month foreigner is the way forward. Often doesn’t work lower down the leagues.

How can you possibly appoint a manager in the summer and only give him 4 games to get it right?Looks to me that Steve Parish and his cronies need to take a look at themselves for appointing a bloke who they knew would try to change their playing style and then only give him 4 games🤔

Sparky and Coatesy came in for a bit of crticism from me in the summer, but you see stories like this and are thankful ...

0 goals scored and 8 shots on target in 3 games is probably making them a bit twitchy.
It's ridiculous but appointing a man so far away from what they were always ran this risk. Dyche or even Moyes would have been a better bet coming after VT, Pardew and Allardyce.

My prediction after just 45 minutes of the start of the season was not as ridiculous as some on this board tried to make it look

The Evening Standard is also suggesting the Burnley match at the weekend is shit or bust for Frank de Boer.
They are saying Roy Hodgson (remember him?) would be the likely replacement.
To be honest its all madness, Palace will be okay, between the defensive excellence of the newly signed Sakho, the twinkling feat of Zaha, and the aerial power of Benteke they will be just fine.

They were saying the same on Talk Sports this afternoon. They also pointed out that de Boer inherited players recruited by Pulis, Allardyce and Pardew, who were selected for their defensive abilities to avoid relegation and don't fit his attacking style.

Its ridiculous, you can't give a manger just 4 games regardless of results.

Get in a manager with a totally different approach to the predecessor. Then when there's a lot to do to get his ideas over sack him.
What did they expect? Why appoint him if they aren't prepared to support him?

How can that happen after a few summer weeks and four games? They brought in a man with a totally different playing style to the last guy and then don't give him any time at all to implement his style?

We did it successfully. Hughes wasn't the seismic change that this represents. There were teething problems as we opened up and played more football, but we still had the spine of the old side, were a fairly decent defensive unit and retained some of the better parts of the old ways. Allardyce and De Boer are pretty much as close as you can get to diametrically opposed.

God help Palace if they had a start to the season like we did last year with no win till October!!
It's all about a chairman and board having the patience and bollocks to see it through - absolute bottlers if they give De Boer the push after 4 games

Crystal Palace are punching above their weight (like us) but with very little stability.
They were always likely to make a couple of mistakes and get relegated back to the nether-regions.

I think De Boer has tried to change too much too quickly. These things take time
Feel very sorry for him if he gets sacked after 4 games and even more so if that useless cretin Hodgson takes over

Shouldn't Frank de Boer adapt his tactics to suit his players and build slowly instead of sticking to his game plan when not having the right personal to do the job?

Shouldn't Frank de Boer adapt his tactics to suit his players and build slowly instead of sticking to his game plan when not having the right personal to do the job? Why appoint Frank De Boer at all then? Surely the hierarchy knew what they were getting and whether he was a good fit for the squad? Most managers have some sort of established approach.

How many managers really do that? Especially when that style has been totally ingrained throughout your entire footballing career as it has with him. I agree ideally you should be able to, but it seems madness to interview him, bring him in, let him espouse this philosophy and then bin him when you can't get Scott Dann instantly knocking it around like Frank Rijkaard.

Palace are fast becoming as irksome as those belligerent pariahs in the Taxpayer Stadium.
In an ideal world both of them will be relegated, along with the media darlings Bournemouth with their whiny, flouncing, cheating great abortion of a squad, headed by that smug cunt Howe.

I fucking hate Crystal Palace. No mark club who get as much coverage as they do because they are London based. Shit ground. Shit to get to. Cheerleaders are nice admittedly.
