When did our players stop living in the local area?
Long gone are the days when they lived local, Sir Stan in Penkhull, Smith, Bloor, Marsh,Ritchie etc lived in the area, did Alan Hudson live locally whilst playing for us?
So when was it our players decide living in and around Stoke-on-Trent wasn't trendy and live in places like Cheshire?

When Andy Griffin came back, his house was literally 50 yards from Huddys old house in Barlaston.

I don't know how important it really is. If we can get better players because we are within commuting distance from the footballing enclave of Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Prestbury then that's got to be helpful. Where you go to work during the week doesn't really matter. They show up, train, do some community work in the local area and get back home in time for Countdown.
I can understand why Sunderland were apparently thinking of moving their training HQ to London. It's not like they have a community of multi-millionaire footballers living in Whitley Bay. I remember that Roy Keane, when he managed Sunderland, moaned about players not wanting to move to the area because their wives wanted to live in London - in fairness, he moaned about a lot, but he probably had a point.

Guessing it was mid to late 90's when they started to move further a field. Peter Beagrie & Gary Hackett lived next door to each other on an estate in Queensville, Stafford during their time with us. Cliff Carr also based himself in Stafford after his move up from the South and still lives and works locally now. Ian Cranson & Peter Handyside lived in Stone, sure Cranson still does.

I washed Peter Beagries car as a kid, he lived in Stafford!!! Mick Kennedy I think lived in Kingsley, may even live now in Lower Tean?
Georgie Berry used to live in Tean, I saw on another thread he may reside in Penkhull way now? Dicko another Planet Tean resident. I'm not really sure it's 'fashionable' enough for modern footballers to live in Staffs anymore, other than perhaps west of the county.

Hudson lived in Barlaston. I went round to house house once to ask for an autograph, he said "I haven't got a pen" and shut the door. I'll bet you could get it now... if you bought a book off him. I met him at a pre match lunch in the Waddington Suite a few seasons back. I told him about the incident. He was very gracious and apologetic and said there was a point when he would get about twenty kids a day knocking on his door looking for autographs and he didn't handle it as well as he he might have done.

Carl Beeston lived in trentham. After we played derby away at the old baseball ground, our coach broke down on the A50. Lou saw us in the layby, asked the team coach to go back and picked some of us up. The coach turned down new inn lane and dropped Carl, me and my mate off at the Man In Space pub!

Thanks I knew it was one of the roads off Wetenhall Drive but I couldn't remember which one out of Davenport Close or Adams Grove. He used to have a kickabout sometimes on that little grassy area with the postbox on it. I remember being quite in awe at the time!

He doesn't live on the Mere anymore. I heard he moved away after his business went bump. I haven't seen him around for a good 20 years. I see his daughter occasionally. I've never seen Terry Conroy in the village. H

The real reason Arnie left was the ongoing mould and spores issue at his pad in Norris Road, Stanfields.
