Our defending puzzles the shit out of me we've either got loads of men behind the ball then nobody for 40 yards until the striker or we've got nobody back. At times it does make me wonder if we've too many men back and they keep getting in each others way.

I'll assume joselu is been sold with that substitution Why ? He's scored four in two hasn't he. Maybe Hughes has seen that he is a good option and has improved from is loan spell and doesn't see the need to play him in this match. well if your most inform striker can't get minutes in the final pre season friendly and with the geordies after him it speaks volumes to me, hope I'm wrong

I am guessing Hughes have told Joselu to find him self a new club before pre-season started. He have only played him to put him in the shopping window reason. Terrible decision. Are you the reincarnation of Nostradamus?

Moral boosting win though we don't look much of a threat from open play still. We definitely need an injection of 3-4 new players. Thought Dioufy was excellent at RB. Shaq did well Bojan very quiet. Not much created for Berahino.

Butland MUST be England No 1 soon.
Well done Stoke. They had a lot of possession and our defence coped well.
Finally WELL DONE DIOUF.

So in summary, we've beaten a champions league outfit, conceding to a penalty that wasn't a penalty.
Despite that, we are shit, unbalanced, Hughes is a fuckwit and we are an absolute joke.
Mmm...what to think?

Plus points: Diouf, Shaq, Ramadan maybe, the 2nd goal for Stoke... the stream that was on Facebook....the chap in the Crystal Tiles shirt in the crowd Negatives: Bojan who really doesnt look anywhere near to friendly standard let alone Premiership (Sorry Bojan Mckay) Our defence that will have some/most Premiership teams licking its lips

Well that was a lot better than I expected. As said above Joselu is a gonner. Wouldn't mind if our forwards were scoring or we were bringing someone in, unless they are paying over the odds I wouldn't let him go.

Being VERY optimistic you could say that Hughes didn't put Joselu on because he wants to surprise Everton by starting him next week.

Good Win, but did anyone see the way Jack walked off the field? IT spoke volumes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see Haugaard starting against Everton!

Excellent work out. Fully tested us defensively with quick one touch passing and movement. But held on for a very encouraging result. Plenty of positives to take into next week, and hopefully a couple of good signings to add to it aswell. Well done Stoke, well done Mark Hughes and well done to those who've travelled.

Conclusions:
Solid performance against decent opposition, albeit that they looked weaker after their major substitutions on the hour mark. A win is a win.
3-4-3 looks here to stay. If so, we desperately need a left wing back and a striker who can play the lone role.
Diouf and Shaq were our stars, Pieters shocking, Allen ran around to no great effect, Bojan fairly anonymous and Saido posed little threat.
No Imbula in the squad and no minutes for Joselu suggests both could still be sold for the right price.
We are still looking a bit weaker right now for the loss of Bruno and Arnie from last season's first choice team. Reinforcements are still needed.

Only saw bits but hats off to mame diouf. Our striker looked like he did well at right wing back. However what a sad state of affairs when a striker is the best full back at the club

Thought the second half we played well. Did Leipzig make some subs at ht? All look the same to me those Germans.
Positives were Diouf, Shaq, Fletcher and Zouma. Negatives were the system (no lwb and our best rwb is also our best striker) and Bera is running out of excuses - looks slow on the uptake when it matters and a yard slow across the ground.

Agree with that, Jezza - strengthening with a centerback, left back, central midfielder and a forward is needed
