I think the fear that we're not willing to play the same game as a lot of teams in terms of the transfer market was just confirmed in that interview. I'm not sure how close he actually is to things but it didn't sound like anything is particularly imminent either.
He cunted Arnie off though so that was good.

Totally underlined the point on talk sport that many us have made over to Mr Scholes let's assume the budget was the reporteed 10 then we have £35/40 m of deals to get done in 2 weeks before the season starts
Should now end the the nett spend irrelevant shit on here unless those pedalling it think Mr Coates is Beet off up the vale as well as me
Certain long term themes really beginning to come home to roost this summer .

I've just posted this on another thread so apologies. I'm happy that PC has just publicly had his say on Arnautovic, it mirrors a lot of the views on here.
Now if anyone in the know has a right to an opinion it's Sir PC and he did not sound happy. Hopefully all the Arnie sympathisers will give their heads a wobble as it's not just 90% of posters on here who are pissed off, it's the Chairman and the manager.
Fuck you Arnie you top drawer dick smuggler.

Anything less than a £50m net spend from here will be disappointing, given the £30m we've received and wages we've shed.

Best part was definitely his barely-disguised disgust for Arnautovic.

Disappointed with Arnie and the people around him. That'll be these agents who are killing the game.

While we shouldn't jeopardise the future of the club we do have to pay the going rate otherwise there's only one direction we're going to go which also jeopardises the club's future. Doing things on the cheap will always eventually lead to relegation just look at the 90s. You can get away with it for a while but eventually it catches up on you. I fear that next season is our catch up.

Arnie was always going to go though wasn't he, from the minute he walked in the door. It is in his DNA and he will do exactly the same at West Ham within 2/3 seasons.

Only the lucky ones get a whack from Sir PC's transfer dong. I don't think he wanted to mention Arnie and the Dong in the same sentence. (I may be reading between the lines there)

I should think Scholes is having nightmares and waking up screaming in terror at the thought of spending that much money.
Very frustrating and disappointing situation that we are apparently now in.
Looks like a long, hard season ahead. I just hope we've got enough spirit and backbone to avoid the drop. At the moment it doesn't look like much has changed since the end of last season - defence still lousy, midfield doesn't create much, no pace, can't score.
Crucial few weeks left in the transfer window but it would have been nice to have got the new players in before the season starts.

You're expecting us to spend £80m, Grapey? 😯 It'd be nice I meant a £50m total spend! £20m net spend from here should be minimum though. That's what we and most other clubs have been spending over the last couple of seasons (circa £20-30m), and I wouldn't imagine it being majorly different this time around. The challenge we have is that the price of 'ok' to 'good' players are being massively inflated by the ridiculous fees at the top. When you bundle in wages too, it becomes even more difficult. My (totally unqualified) guess would be we'll spend around £35-40m total in this window, and another £15-20m in January.

We do seem to have 5 gaping holes - RB, CB, CM, WING, STR. I'm not concvinced Delph's what we need, although I think he's a good player. But he seems pretty baked-in to what we're going to do. Dream scenario would be something like: BMI 12 Delph 12 Winger 12 Striker 20 RB 12 with £12m pretty much the par for any worthwhile signing these days! And a big premium on any striker with 2 legs Like you say, the chances of us spending £70m this summer are small, so decisions are going to have to be made.

Can someone compile a simple list of good (dont have to be world beaters) players we have purchased less than £10m and more than £10m. I suspect there will be lots of entries in the less than £10m and maybe 3 in the more than column. Even accounting for the crazy idea that £20m is the new £10m. We have flourished in the PL since our first season mostly down to those cheaper players and a good bit of management.
I'm personally not worried other than when the panic brigade judge us after 5 matches and arguably our hardest fixture start ever.
