Thanks for the replies Clarkeda, PrestwichPotter and Elystokie. St Pauli match looks easy enough to do airport and ground close to city centre. Going enquire at work tomorrow how I get my train staff pass for Germany. Never done European game with Stoke and always wanted to, got bit of money aside I can use and Mrs egging me to do it. Starting to feel nervous this could actually happen!!! You're welcome mate, in fact I've taken my own advice and just booked mesen on BA0972 from Heathrow Monday night and back Thursday Even treated myself to Business Class on the way out only because I have a load of Avios miles I've had for ages though haha. In cash it's cost me £71, my challenge is to try and drink that much worth on the way out Better have a look for some digs now, can't wait. holiday inn express or ibis are just off the reeperbhan and near to the stadium, i stayed in the express last year.

Cheers Northy, I'll check them out, might even get a discount with the Forces Discount card thing, you never know. Have to say I usually prefer 'quirkier' places to corporate hotels and generally like AirBnb, but I'll certainly check em out, thanks

Or you may be lucky and get bed in the JollyDayInn. The massive funfair is next to the stadium and starts on July, 28th for four weeks. Together with the pubs, bars and cafes around and in the stadium you will have plenty opportunities for pre and post beers. But you may have a decent beer (or two, or three..) on the terraces as well. If you have any questions, they are usually answered very quickly here.

It is a good job my wife is a broad-minded Bajan. Not even the delights of the Reeperbahn will shock her, and she is fluent in German too, so very handy to have around in case any of you lot get into a McFlurry of some sort! ;-)

Bought my tickets in H1 and priced up flights from Manchester and a 2 night stay in the Ibis for just over £200 all in for 2 people (or half that if I can convince the missus to let me have a pass out on my own!). St Pauli has been my second team for years and can't believe I'm finally going to see them, even better that it'll be along with a load of fellow Stokies! I'm going to be around the Reeperbahn pre match so I'll be on the look out for red and white

Is it safe enough to backpack round Germany by train? I have looked at flights to Hamburg and back to Manchester Monday to Monday so can do both St Pauli and RB leipzig matches. I can get free travel on trains in Germany so looking at doing something like 2 days in hamburg, train to Berlin for 2 days, then train to Leipzig for 2 days. After RB game train back to Hamburg for flights back. Does anybody know if this is good idea? Mrs is telling me do it and now I got the buzz to go for it, but am I mad to do it with a rucksack on my tod? Yes you will be fine traveled around Germany by train a couple of times. Good experience. Trains are a bit slow. but usually on time. I use this website The man in seat 61 Enjoy yourself

Arrive on the 5th, wedding on the 7th, leave for Nice on the 9th then head back to Calgary on the 20th via Montreal. Watching us get tonked by those shitheads was not as exciting as sun, sea and kronenbourg. It is one of the first 6 games
