Doesn't seem to be a lot of Labour support on this forum. Are we a Conservative city? I don't know much about politics. Most of the Right Wing posters don't live in Stoke mate. We all saw how the Tories destroyed this City in the 1980s. In 1979 50,000 in Stoke on Trent worked in the Pottery Industry..by 1990 less than 8,000 In 1979 we had 8 Collieries open mining coal (20,000 jobs) In 1990 we had none. We lost 10,000 jobs at Shelton Steel Works in the 1980s And yet according to the Oatcake EE Board 'Its all Labours fault' Brian Clough, Bill Shankly, Alex Ferguson,Peter Coates all Heroes of mine are/were Lifelong Labour supporters. Some of the Right Wing dross posted by some of the people on here sickens me. This City has been destroyed by the Tories. Indeed yet all that time the City had a Labour controlled council, Maggie the witch hated working class people however those industries were in terminal decline, our local council failed to see the writing on the wall implemented no contingency plan for the inevitable collapse of our core industries, hence the low paid low skilled warehouse jobs springing up in the area much of the blame lies squarely on the failure of the Labour council in the City to be proactive , the people of our City have been abandoned by the Torys and betrayed by Labour they are both guilty of fucking us up.

I think the Tories are more responsible given that they fund Local Authorities (80/20) so they pull the purse strings far more than Labour controlled councils. If you've got fuck all to spend why criticise what you spend it on? On the other hand, Labour have been complacent and have pushed an Ideology on us that is more in tune with London than Stoke. Although Historically, there is NO doubt that the Tories have fucked this City much harder than Labour.

Much of the time we had a Labour government in charge during that period of decline, Bliar & Gormless did little to assist our City they were as complicit as the Torys under the witch without the hate factor. Millions have been pumped into the City fairly recently much of it has been wasted on fcuk up's like that hideous building where the old job centre used to be, money has been clawed back as the Labour lead council failed to spend or allocate it to projects.

High interest rates destroyed most of the Pottery Industry...given that 95% are exported and became exorbitantly expensive.

Look there are lots of reasons British industry went into decline interest rates , poor investment, strikes , outdated design and work practises , strikes , most of it happened under the socialists of the :60s and 70s

Although you are right about lack of capital investment in manufacturing industry for decades and other underlying industrial 'symptoms' that had gone unadressed for decades.

We're a labour city, although one of the 3 MPs is a tory and the council is (badly) ran by a collection of tories, independents and a ukip councillor I'm one of the few labour people on here, this site can be very right wing at times. Very interesting comment jonny... Who knows what is right wing and left wing these days. It's usually possible to differentiate the two.

Let's start leading Europe from the front. It's our destiny. Agreed. We lead the way with Brexit & the rest of the shackled-by-the-EU-dictatorship-countries are starting to follow our lead. God bless the brave Brexiteers. Each & everyone one of them shall be remembered by future generations as heroes who saved the European people & it's wonderfully unique countries, cultures & identities. Brexit; putting the Great back into Britain... And Europe!

The worry is I don't think this is a joke - I think some of the more nuttier Brexiteers think they are on the same level as the people that actually fought to defend us against a cause that was actually trying to take our independence from us. I can't wait for the remake of this epic struggle, featuring Daniel Craig as the man who ticks a box and wins the day. Maybe to add some drama his pencil breaks or something.
