This looks like an amazing acquisition by Palace, a team we should be aiming to beat in the league.
It was a massive missed opportunity by Coates knowing that this guy was available for the past couple of months and he was interested in coming to the Premier League.
> Ajax born and bred
> Values youth players
> Plays attacking football
I think hes a better manager than Ronald Koeman and predict he will get Palace pushing even the top 6. The guy is a winner.
Instead of twisting, we have stuck with Hughes. This looks like a major opportunity lost for me.

De Boers record as manager goes like this
Ajax - 1st Ajax - 1st Ajax - 1st Ajax - 1st Ajax - 2nd Ajax - 2nd Inter - 12th (only 14 games played)
His record is better than any young manager starting out. Obviously had a blip at Inter but jeezus you guys are crazy just to write him off.
He is a MASSIVE coup for Crystal Palace

We were linked with De Boer but quite frankly I am pleased that we never got him I think that you are looking through his record with rose tinted glasses and completely ignoring the crap job he done at Inter I personally think that you have dodged a bullet by not going for him and should give Sparky one more year. over the last few years Stoke must be one of the most stable clubs in the prem manager wise I cant think of any club apart from Arsenal that has had less managers than you lot
this is all in my opinion of course and as we know opinions are like arseholes .............everyone's got one

Hughes had a much worse half season at QPR than De Boer did at Inter.
De Boer had a bit of a mare no doubt in Italy which meant he was available for a mid-table club in the Premier league
His stock has fallen slightly but anyone with half-a-brain can see how good a manager he will be.
He's from the Ajax-Barca group of managers who learnt their trade under Johan Cruyff. Literally ALL of those ex-players have gone on to become fine managers.
To think Stoke had a chance of signing De Boer, whilst Hughes was going stale the last 6 months is something I sincerely hope we dont come to regret.

Winning the Dutch league with Ajax is like winning the Scottish league with Celtic!
Imo, Palace will be in a dog fight next season and I really don't think De-Boer is the man for that.

I wouldn't say they'd all gone on to become fine managers. Some have. Being a great player and learning at the feet of a top manager don't necessarily make you one. Think the jury is still out on De Boer personally. Eredivisie managers, like players, can go either way.

He's clearly not done a bad job at Ajax & it is fair to see his job at Inter as a blip given the basket case Inter was at that time.
However winning in Holland with Ajax is not 'amazing'.
Jury is out, he might be a great appointment but given his M/O is to blood youngsters & play 'the right way' that might prove very difficult with Palace(or anyone) in the much harsher English league.
Good luck to him & them but I personally would be wary of appointing a manager with no prem experience,no English football experience. There are always exceptions but I think it's a tough job for him.

Michael Laudrup at Swansea Ronald Koeman at Southampton Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton
They all came with no Prem experience and excelled in their first season here.
De Boer will be at Palace for 2 years max. and will end up at a much bigger club.
I think we are being way too conservative, which has worked well for us up to a point going with British managers but they arent really the best around at this moment in time. We are fishing in a very small pond.
Im not normally one to be jealous of the clubs around us, but I do think this is a major opportunity missed given our old squad that needs urgent refreshing.

We've got a manager. What we need is some new players. We've needed new players since the day Hughes arrived. Three years on and the situation hasn't changed much. He has signed a few good players, but most have been duds and we are still relying primarily on older players that were here before he arrived. You could argue it's a testament to Hughes's managerial skill in getting the best out of players like Cameron, Walters, Crouch, Whelan, Shawcross, Adam et al. but that cannot go on much longer. There were clear signs of significant decline at the end of last season and so far there's no indication Hughes knows how to fix it.
