He's absolutely fucked with it isn't he? Yeah, I do feel abit sorry for him. Me too when I looked at them. I completely forgot they were coming out and saw them at about 9.30 and it was my first thought. I'm worried anyway, it made me more so.

We need a really good transfer window! That fixture list does not look good! Just look at next March for one! Big transfer window desperately needed. Repeat to fade!

Let's balance things out then, seeing as some on here think we shouldn't be so negative.
Hughes for Manager of the Month for August and September 😉

How can anyone gauge what we might do now, we've signed one player, get a grip.

Wow the first 8 fixtures are super hard. Comparing to the results of the same fistures last season we got
Everton A : 1 - 0 defeat Arsenal H : 1 - 4 defeat West Brom A : 1 - 0 defeat Man United H : 1 - 1 draw Newcastle A : No game last year but they will be strong at home under Rafa Chelsea H : 1 - 2 defeat Southampton H : 0 - 0 draw Man City A : 0 - 0 draw
So of those 7 fixtures we achieved the grand total of 3 points last season.
A repeat of those results would see us way behind the pack and in the relegation zone.
Im sure Hughes will not be excited about this prospect given his current plight. We needed a couple of easy games first up to get some momentum

It's not going to happen though is it? We're being 'astute' and were just going to keep trying to survive as long as possible without pumping any serious money into the squad. What we need is the players to get fit in the fucking pre-season and bollocks with the excuse of we'll finish strong. The season starts in August, not bastard November. This decline has been going for far too long to suggest that we'll come out of the gates flying next season.

My prediction
Everton A : L Arsenal H : D West Brom A : L (inevitable if Pulis is still there) Man United H : L Newcastle A : W/D (can't choose) Chelsea H : L Southampton H : W Man City A : L
5 or 7 points after 8 games?

With the squad we have at present, it will be the same old story. Injuries will hit us again, disrupting the flow of the team. When I say injuries, the same old player's will go out of the side with said, same old injuries. New, young, fit players required! I cannot bear the thought of getting stuffed by 4 goals again, on a fairly regular basis. Cup half empty as usual, and can't see for the life of me, much changing!

I'm worried anyway, it made me more so. I'm the same, I wanted him gone, I still want him gone. However he's been given time by the board so he needs to do good business and get us playing like we did when odem was playing or that purple patch over Christmas a couple of years ago. When I saw the fixtures I just thought 'for fuck sake' and I'm sure MH thought the same. Any grace period he had, has now gone. He needs 6 points from the first 8 games I feel or it'll be restless. I said 3 points earlier but the mood in this thread dictates he's going to need more.

Journalist: "Mr Coates, please can you explain why you have chosen to sack the manager today?"
PC: "Simple really. The fixture list has been released and LGH87 can't see us winning before the Bournemouth game on October 21st so we've had to relieve Mark of his duties"

Some posters are revelling in our horrendous fixture list. Poor form. Will they will be happy when Pearson takes over? Only if it's him rather than Pardew.

Looks like the fixture list could be the final nail in sparky's coffin, as looking at our opening games I don't have us down for a win until Bournemouth at home on October 21st!! Give him 10 games. I fear the worst

Perfect start to the season in truth.
An easy start would have shown us nothing. This tough start will let us see if we're ok or need to act and it's always better to act sooner rather than later.
Hughes knows as well as we do that we were shit last season, he probably knows his job is on the line with a repeat of that form. So it's up to him and the players to show they have what it takes at this level.
Shape up or ship out as they say.

No, just Stoke's.

Really though, why all the doom? there aren't any easy games in the league for any team apart from the top 6 or 7 (who probably regard every game as winnable). Of the newly promoted teams Newcastle will be strong, Brighton look as though they can give most teams a game so that only leaves Huddersfield as potentially weak, so we just have to live with the fact that will will plat all teams at some point over the season. That said I do hope that Hughes finds his best team sooner rather than later(as he always appears to stumble onto his best team by accident rather than design), and we do need pace!

8 of last year's top 10 in the first 9 games!?
Is it me or do we always end up with tough starts?
I know you have to play them all but come on...

So, like it or not, there it is. A very tough start.
We took 1 point from the corresponding fixtures last season, excluding Newcastle of course, what do you think we will realistically come away with this year :
Everton (A) Arsenal (H) WBA (A) Man Utd (H) Newcastle (A) Chelsea (H)
I'll give us 8. Very optimistic I know.
A good result at Everton and I can see us really kicking on into the 3 big clubs at home.

I doubt there is anything built into the computer program to negatively target Stoke.
You can look at it another way, that such a list of opponents at the start helps because you get the hard games out of the way when the team is traditionally poor anyway.
Boro last year and Norwich the year before both suffered from a tough end of season.

I'd prefer a tough start to a tough end because there's time to put things right and make the necessary tactical and possibly managerial changes to put things right. With the January window there too if you're still struggling at Christmas. Palace made good use of that last season.
Hughes is under massive pressure now though, fans won't tolerate a poor start and it's looking like one is inevitable right now.

I think the fixture list will have a positive effect. Hughes will want to get all of his transfer business done early, get the players bedded in & working during pre-season.
