He's not going to sell all of those though is he? He's apparently going to reduce the average age of the squad and Percy seemed to suggest that those are the players we'd be looking to move on.
Surely he realised that, if he wants Saido to score 15-20 goals next season, then none of our creative players can leave. He definitely seems to regret loaning out Bojan, though frankly I don't believe anything he says atm.

It is easier said than done to move out players with time left on their contract. Would you agree to go for less money because that is what it amounts to? Would you get any money at all for some of those out of contract. The idea of moving players out to raise funds is a good idea theoretically but practically it is almost impossible.

Presumably seeking to lower the wage bill as much as anything else. I would imagine that is the most significant aspect of any club's balance sheet these days not the one-off fees.
....which brings us back to the extension of Johnson's contract????

An optimistic £10m for Imbula if Roma go ahead. Otherwise it's a loan somewhere. So fingers crossed the Roma stuff is real.
Joselu? His market in Spain is probably £2.5-3m, and can't see anyone taking his wages on. 2 years left on good Prem money.
Wolly? He's only got one year left so should be able to move him on to a small German team. Fee would be minuscule though.
Muni? Even a biggish Spanish team weren't prepared to go to £3m for him and he's got 2 yrs left on decent Prem money.
Diouf? One year left on mega money. Interesting to see if he's offered a new deal. If not, we may try and get a £3m for him from the Bundesliga. Someone should pay that with his record there.
Bojan? Very hard to say. £6-7m maybe? But then you've got the seemingly insurmountable issue of him having 3 more years on superstar money which will rule 95% of clubs (and 100% of clubs who'd want him) out. So a loan - but where would that get us?
Walters? We could probably get £3m for him even at his age in this inflated domestic market.
Shaq? Would think we could get our money back easily enough. Someone will take him.
Adam? £2m to a Champo team?

What is butland worth 17-20m ? If it was, say, Southampton selling him, about £35 million. Unfortunately it's Stoke we're talking about, so about £10 million if we're lucky.

I really can't see us selling Butland or Arnie this summer. Shaq though.... I wouldn't be surprised or overly bothered by this. Great talent but hugely frustrating. Still think it takes the piss that we are even contemplating these things when we are awash with money, though. If Hughes had done his job right, wholesale changes wouldn't have been needed.

I think Hughes wanted to bring the age down... until he was told we wouldn't be spending much so he's tied down some players as security?
Also makes sense that he's said we'll be playing some more youth next season although he could be lying
Until our academy is even just 50% the quality of Southampton's we're going to need cash pumped in regularly.... unless we bring in a shrewd manager/transfer team to avoid little £20m mishaps like Imbula

They seem close and Shaq certainly spots the runs Arnie makes. I'd like Bojan back though, and his contract situation makes that extremely likely unless we loan him for the rest of his Stoke career! I want two new midfielders to come in, at least one full back and another striker. I'm very worried about Ryan's form and think he's becoming a weakness (controversial I know) but can't see any signs that Hughes feels the same. We need pace, power and dynamism in midfield to give us a better platform to attack. Our full backs are leaving gaping holes in every game these days so shore those up and the centre backs may get back to their best. I'm not expecting radical change as it's not practical but pragmatic and considered activity should be able to get us back on track. We should attempt to use the loan market again as we did with Indi (but not with Bony) and assess where we are in January.

The whole thing is fraught with difficulties here are a few which spring to mind.
How can we take the average age down when we have just recontracted all the 30 something's?
Can Sparky really go back the board for the big ££'s needed to sure up the midfield, won't they just ask what happened to the £30m on Imbula and Joe?
Then there is the age old problem that the players er want to keep are the the only ones anyone wants to buy.
I've said it a 100 times on here, buying players is easy, anyone can spend money, shifting players we don't want is the hard part. That's should be a big part of any success measure of our 'transfer team'

It all seems so muddled with our actions contradicting what we are saying, it seems as muddled as what is happening on the pitch. Surely we are not going into retrenchment mode just when the big TV money is coming through. I'm sure other teams will use it to strengthen their squads, the teams coming up will be able to spend big comparatively and if we go for the budget option with this ageing squad and lose a few of our key players we could be in big trouble. I'm not sure what our ambition is any more, we seem to be complacent and sleep walking towards the trap door. God I sound like Benji now, that is worrying!!!

It smacks of keeping faith with the manager but not having the faith to back him in the market. Worrying times.

I genuinely don't think the players he has in mind to sell will raise all that much, maybe some contract payments would be decreased but that's about all
I think he would sell,
Joselu, Wollschied, Bardsley, Adam, Ireland, Affelay, Imbula, Diouf
Realistically though we would do well to retrieve £15m for those combined

Someone will take him. Adam? £2m to a Champo team? That's a pretty fair assessment - I'd add Whelan at about the same price and destination as Adam. Bardsley is off, albeit on a free, but his wages will be available for a new recruit. Given retired, and hopefully Haugaard for 300/400k, likewise gone. This "bring the average age down" thing is odd, given the contract extension liberally distributed to the Dad's Army brigade these past few months. Imbula - 10m Shaq - 12m Adam - 2m Whelan - 2m Walters - 3m Haugaard - 300k Diouf -2m Muni - 2m Bojan - 5m Joselu - 2m Wollscheid - 1m total 41.3m That is probably very ambitious and highly unlikely (and I would rather keep Shaq and Bojan), but surely we can bring in at least 20m to swell the coffers? I can see, if some of those towards the bottom of that list are to leave permanently, we may have to do a deal to pay up their contracts or to cover some of their wages for the balance of their contracts, to ease through deals to clubs who cannot afford to pay their full Stoke wage.

i sat in the stands on Saturday and thought, i wouldnt mind if 6 of the starters were sold in all honesty. Johnson - why did he get a new deal? not performed well and hardly lowering the squad age? Whelan - hero. but come on he slows every attack down and we're crying out for a leggy midfielder (delph in my opinion) Shawcross - Bringing BMI in has really brought to light how average he has been this season. Plus what an uninspring captain. Diouf - Don't think hes a bad player but if we arent going to start him so he gets a run of games then let the lad go. Shaq - magic on his 2 games a season, very injury prone, until it comes to the international break.. Cameron - Need to upgrade him massively, great athlete but really need someone better technically (Aaron Mooy?) Pieters - No explanation needed Muni - Awful at LB, hes a better CB, but hughes wont play him there or CM where he is also better.
Also ship out, Bards, Wolly, Crouch.
Joselu a replacement for crouch? great in the air and a more mobile option?

Out of our creative players, in all of berahinos appearances so far, arnie has laid on a couple of chances for him, allen put a super ball in at swansea...and that is it. Our creative players have been fucking rubbish and their performances should be evaluated on the basis of how man goals our striker scores. I always defended shaqiri but if we could just sell him and get our money back for me that would give us a great chance to play sobhi and use the money on an attacking player who is suited to this league

Imbula - 10m (8M loss) Shaq - 12m (Break even) Adam - 2m (3M loss) Whelan - 2m (1.5M gain) Walters - 3m (750k loss) Haugaard - 300k (300k loss) Diouf -2m (2M gain) Muni - 2m (2M gain) Bojan - 5m (2M gain with the 50% clause?) Joselu - 2m (5M loss) Wollscheid - 1m (1.75M loss) So if they went for those amounts, averaged over 11 players, we've made roughly a loss of 11M? 1M per player? Thank the lord for this scientific method of buying players. It could have been so much worse...
