Shawcross was all over the place plus he can't pass wind. Really ?...all I saw was their centre forwards not get a sniff all night apart from one chance You saying the goal was his fault then or is it because you don't really rate him anymore so see things that aren't happening to justify it ? He along with the other two was excellent ...the team was dire His passing was bordering on embarrassing for a professional footballer and for the goal I think he was selling programmes in the Stoke end. Last ditch stuff is great to watch but there is more to defending. Watch his clearing headers - every time they go to an opposition player. He has no control over what he is doing. Compare his game to BMI.

Sometimes manager's do that to gee a squad up and get them back on their toes. It worked to some degree. Wouldn't read too much in to it. If it was an isolated incident in an isolated defeat I could go with that mate. But there's chopping and changing every game, and to me, it's starting to look really random. It pisses me off because I've supported Hughes from the beginning, but it's starting to look like defending the indefensible. A good win on Saturday and I'll be in full-tilt, fickle football supporter, backing the manager mode. But it's getting harder for me to defend what seems to be happening. When the last manager left I celebrated hard. If Hughes goes I'll take not one jot of pleasure out of it. I really want him to succeed, but I'm rapidly losing faith in him having the nous, or the heart to make us a cohesive team again. Where the fuck did that team who took Man City apart disappear to? I'm talking about naming a team late and not the chopping and changing. Players use it as an excuse for a poor performance because they "didn't have time to prepare mentally" and some managers use it as a tool to keep players on their toes from time to time. Swapping to a back three shouldn't be a problem or an excuse as we've arguably turned in our better performances this year using it, and to be totally frank, if there are any players in our club that can't switch to it then they shouldn't be at a top level club and they shouldn't be earning upwards of 30 grand a week! This isn't aimed at you mate but I know I'm fighting a losing battle here. The fans are turning on the manager and that's that. I just don't think he deserves it for last night. We've played worse than that this season and won.

Thought Muniesa was MOM and just what we have been missing. Charlie was not nearly as bad as some people on this site are saying. Hughes should stick with this side - albeit he brings back Sobhi and perhaps Shaq against Liverpool. Hughes summed it up himself. We are just not taking chances. Arnie was biggest culprit. We need to turn it around or 14th place at best is what we can expect, given that all teams around us are picking up points. A month ago Leicester were 15 points behind us. Now ahead of us on goal difference. We dominated that game last night. Also let's judge Berahino after a good pre-season, though at the moment the jury is out. Perhaps he would do better with improved service!

It must be a nightmare playing a different formation in different positions for the players most weeks. However I think 532 is the way forward but it should of been Arnie & sobhi as wingbacks not a striker and full back that can't cross a road never mind a ball. Diouf deserves to start up top he's a striker not a creator

Its a joke that Pieters plays wing-back ahead of Muniesa
Muniesa - can beat a man on the outside, can cross a ball, can actually pass.
Only worry is his dodgy hamstrings. Other than that hes gotta be better than Eric (sorry about the cross again fellas) Pieters

Other than that hes gotta be better than Eric (sorry about the cross again fellas) Pieters This. Pieters is truly wank going forward but most of the time is a solid defender. Muni has two good feet and a bit of guile, so surely it should be the other way round? As for the goal, Muni may be accepting some responsibility - but watching the replay over and over, he is clearly covering Gray along with BMI - Boyd comes from the right hand side from behind Pieters - he should have tracked him really. All a moot point because Adam should never have let Hendrick dance past him so easy.

wtf?
Hughes has 100% lost it.
If You're going to BURNLEY. With different tactics.. you'd practice it in training surely?
Hughes changes it 2 hours before kick off and throws Marc in at the deep end.
Then proceeds to let Shawcross send numerous 'clips' (hoofs) up to Berahino who has never ever been known to be a hold up player who will pick balls out of the air and bang them in the net.
Truely abysmal team selection. Piss poor tactics and really poor management.

I actually feel sorry for Pieters being made to play there.
I lost it last night when his 3rd cross in a row hit the first defender.
HE IS NOT A WING-BACK Mr Hughes

The signs have been there for a while and any new manager may well feel it's time for a change. He seems afraid with the ball at his feet and whilst his distribution has never been a strong point, he simply gives it to Indi, passes it back to Grant or hoofs it up field. I'm not sure where we go with him (I know I'll get stick for this opinion) but he's as culpable as some of the others routinely slated on here albeit I don't doubt his commitment to the cause.

Love Muniesa! "Show bollocks" 😅
He very rarely puts a foot wrong, is a great guy to have around the team and judging him by his performances should arguably be one of the first choice centre halves.

If Ryan, as many suspect, is losing his Mojo, can Muniesa and Bruno play together as a centre back pairing? They are both left footers - has Bruno any history of playing as a right sided cb in a pair? It isn't that unusual to have two cbs who both have the same stronger foot. Shawcross and Huth were both right footed for example.

Before we could pass it in to Fonz with 3 men around him and he'd keep it. You didn't have to worry. You can't do that with Allen and Cameron.

We were playing well, created loads of opportunities (all of which we fucked up and didn't even get a shot away I might add which just added to the frustration on the night) and then the manager panicked because they scored with practically their first attack of the game. The substitutions killed us. Go through the starting 11 and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that played badly, Arnie aside maybe who was "off it" on the night. Adam was excellent until Crouch came on then he just starting whacking it in his general direction, Berahino worked hard and actually showed some clever link up play, the 3 centre halves were totally in command and Muniesa, in particular was excellent. Cameron was great and Joe Allen had his best game in as long as I can remember. Diouf worked tirelessly but lacked the quality of a wide man (again we are asking him to do a job he can't do) and as usual Pieters was his reliable self with his usual couple of lousy crosses. A goal aside, the team played well. Then the substitutions killed us. If Berahino was knackered, bring Sobhi on and move Diouf up front. We brought Crouch on, moved Diouf inside and ended up with Ryan as a full back, high up the pitch looking to cross to Crouch. It was stupid, pathetic and more than a tad embarrassing.

I also think Muniesa is a far more intelligent and capable footballer than Erik and in that back 3, Muniesa's ability to stride out from the back and into midfield really stood out in his performance last night. He was really excellent. I think Muniesa is an excellent centre half, I'm sure he'd be an excellent wing back and as you know, I'm convinced he'd be a superb midfield player. He's a supremely talented footballer with so many really good attributes. Sadly he's never fit enough for long enough to prove it. However, if we are to play 3 at the back, Ryan has to be the central one of the 3 and that creates a problem because both Bruno and Muniesa are so left footed.

Indeed I do. I've never been in the camp that he's too small or too weak to play centre half. He's more than big enough, more than strong enough, has a great leap and he actually tackles like a tank. The best three at the back would be Cameron, Shawcross and Bruno maybe with Muniesa taking Erik's place as the wing back but whether physically, due to his hamstrings, he could cope with that would very much be open to debate. If we went with that 3 at the back, Muniesa could take Cameron's spot in midfield and add mobility and quality to the midfield. I thought Cameron was really good last night but once again his quality on the ball was awful.

Arnie went through 1 v 1 with Heaton on 4 separate occasions and not once did we even muster a shot. Adam failed to hit the target twice from very easy positions and Crouch, again, failed to capitalise on relatively simple headers where once again he failed to trouble the keeper. It's not straw clutching at all. Last night was bad, really bad and it was made all the worse by us being clearly the better of the two teams but not only wasting chances, but actually failing to shoot at all. I was tearing my hair out. I've not felt so frustrated, angry and let down watching Stoke for a long time.

Yes John, but Huth could pass reasonably well with his left foot, as could Wollscheid. Which is whyI asked the question could Muni and Bruno function as a pair. I honestly don't know if one or both of them can pass with their right foot.
