We have free speech. As long as we don't say anything. There's so many people who do need a slap because they can take offence at anything.

Ffs it was a joke, but in today's world he should know better than to try and be humorous, about the PC brigades pet hobbyhorses.

you simply cannot compare the situation between your mum and this he's said it was 'heat of the moment' and she's accepted his apology privately. That to me, doesn't sound like a joke. I still think the laughter in the video is nervousness, not 'haha' funny you're right about him not apologising outside of football, he'd have been sacked straight away violence against women is deplorable, and when you have to pick up teeth and hold faces back together, the humour soon wears off it wasn't, still isn't or ever will be funny
What if he'd said to her what he really wanted to say ... "why don't you just fuck off with those sort of questions eh"?
But he didn't did he? He tried to be a bit more polite about it and attempted to dress it up with a bit of humour, maybe it wasn't actually that funny but what he was actually doing, was letting her know what he thought of her questions, he wasn't threatening her, he knew it, she knew it and most level head people will know it too.
i'd prefer it if he had told her to fuck off directly. in my opinion, you don't have to have a raised voice to be intimidating or resonate a threat towards someone. His comments after illustrate that he didn't mean it as a joke, and her laugh, again to me, is one of nervousness not humour he's an experienced premier league manager where the only way you don't get another job is if you become the next jimmy saville. Premier league managers hold all the power and people don't want to rock the boat they're working in. She's a working reporter trying her hand in an extremely competitive field where one mistake can mean the next job goes to someone else (hence no initial complaints from her) im not trying to be PC, i simply think what he said was disgusting as the threat was on the sly and not that much in jest

After hearing the tape, it speaks more about managers being unable to handle Journo's questions than it does about Moyes being sexist. Be it Fergie, Mourinio, Pearson... Also not knowing when to stop, when he continues on about "watch yourself" it starts to get a bit uncomfortable.

I completely disagree with you chap (as I've already explained), I think you're seeing something that isn't there.
And I don't remotely think that 'his comments after illustrate that he didn't mean it as a joke', he's apologised because he's had to, nothing more.
The reporter may have been nervous because she knew that maybe she'd pushed the questioning too far and might not get the opportunity to interview him the following week but I am certain that she didn't feel threatened, as in being concerned for her personal safety.
And yes in hindsight, I'm sure that Moyes does regret not telling her to just simply 'fuck off'.

Are you serious? If he said that to a man it would be top banter from Moyes, but because it's a woman they feel the need to bring out the "Oh I'm a woman I'm the victim again" bollocks. He's done nothing wrong at all. I agree with that however he wouldnt say that to a bloke Why not? Apart from the "even though you're a woman" I don't see why he wouldn't say something like that to anybody, that's just the way he is, he was joking.

Fucking hell, it was a bloody joke. How the fuck that dumb cunt Rosena Allin-Khan considers it 'sexist' is beyond me. Besides, if women want equal rights then they should also expect equal lefts too.

Managers bat off questions every conference, go into strops etc, you never hear them making jokes offering guys outside.

The 1st time i have seen this video and must say "what a load of bollocks". I can't believe that Moyes has been harshly ridiculed for this. How many people turn to their kids and say your never too old for a slap in jest. Things like this don't half piss me off, absolutely pathetic.

[br At last some one identifies the actual problem here. I can see both sides but veer towards siding with Moyes. Why do these people who have nothing to do with situations feel it us up to them to take up others fights especially when a) they have not been invited to do so and b) there is no fight to fight as the two people have solved the issue amicably as adults ?

Should not have had to apologise, feminists vouching for equal rights but first to cry about a harmless joke that edges towards gender equality 'even if you're a woman, I'll still slap you' etc
He should be sacked, not because what he has said but because he has been a disasterous appointment.

Stop assuming you know the relationship between moyes and the reporter, they may share a joke together regularly for all you know. It was harmless fun, good job he didn't touch her shoulder or anywhere else, there would be hell up with people saying he sexually abused her and threatened her. It takes a sad kind of person to take what moyes said seriously. If you think what he said is serious then you need to get a grip.

Let's be honest Sunderland have been shit for years, Moyes is a decent manager and will come good if you stand by him. You were always going to struggle this season and he has had barely any financial backing, i think you just need to be patient.

If you threatened to slap an auditor or lawyer or the taxman because you were annoyed about the lone of questioning then you would be sacked, no two ways about it. Quite why he has to bolt on the "even though you're a women" is beyond me and that is what has ratcheted up the criticism. Perhaps I'm wrong, perhaps Moyes threatens to lamp the male interviewers as well and it's all fine. I hope so, because otherwise it stinks of intimidation.

Actually heard it for the first time today...clearly a joke that was taken as such by the "victim"
Why do some people want to be offended all the time?

Maybe i should take offence the next time my wife passes me a jar of jam to open.

Why get so angry defending a multi-millionaire professional who ought to have known better than to make a threat of violence against a young reporter doing her job on camera. I'll leave you with the words of the tree-hugging left-wing publication the Daily Express in their editorial. "Banter is just a thin excuse for inadequate men to make off-colour and inappropriate remarks, often about women. If anyone reacts negatively, the response, made with outstretched hands and an expression of wide-eyed, feigned innocence, is that, “It’s only banter!” I have many male friends from all classes and walks of life and I don’t know a single one who would ever make a remark of the sort Moyes made because normal men don’t go around threatening to slap anyone."

That's where we differ, most of my friends enjoy a laugh and it goes both ways. It really is a non story and your making a mountain out of a mole hill. The woman was not offended so you really have no argument. I take these types of stories with a pinch of salt, i don't know how well Moyes knows the woman and what sort of relationship they have and neither does anyone else. It was not a threat, to even say it is a threat is just ridiculous. People are always looking for something to make a complaint about, it's pathetic. I nearly forgot, maybe people should be offended by your username, perhaps we could all say it has homophobic references.
