Still to this day I look at him in a Stoke shirt and think "Xherdan Shaqiri" How the fuck did we manage to sign Xherdan Shaqiri? Because no one else wanted to touch him ? Personally, I prefer to think "WHY the fuck did we bother to sign Xherdan Shaqiri ?" Well he's a quality player and he's young. Everton were in for him as well.

From the bits I watched, intermittently though it was, he seemed to have a good game and was operating predominantly from a central position.

It's a difficult one with Xherdan with the history of his injury. Obviously he had the calf injury and then before the last game, he trained 2 days before it and then literally the day before the game, he said his other calf was sore" "So there was a concern there and he was a bit edgy and nervous about it, so he wasn't involved there" "Now this week, he's trained 3 or 4 days - but when you come into a game against Chelsea, and there's a worry about both his calves...." "In fairness to him, he wants to play and he feels he's ready having had the 3 or 4 days training in the last 5 or 6 weeks""So we've taken a view that we've come off a fantastic performance at Man City - and we want now to see Shaq go away with Switzerland, train every day, get a full 90 in and please God he comes through that and is ready and raring to go for the last 9 games - whereas if you put him in at any time and he does go again and he's not quite ready, we only get him for the last 4 or 5 games, rather than the last 9" To be fair, Bowen said he was 'fit' last week How is it difficult? He cost us 15 million quid. We pay him 3.5 million quid a year. He's meant to be our star player (or at least one of them). He's missed more games this season though injury than he's played. Understandable if he's suffered a really bad injury, but it's just endless continual niggles, that seem to last forever (unless his country comes calling.....). Even when he does play, he's hardly our key player. How many games does he play where you come away thinking "Shaq has won it for us today, he's been outstanding"? - hardly ever is the answer. I've seen more promise from Ramadan in a few short games than I have from Shaq in all his time here. His brilliant games are very few and far between. He's a luxury we simply can't afford. £12m Sorry, just being pedantic.

Despite the flutterings on here about his potential as n10 in the prem for us. I can't see it myself. He's essentially wide right striker competition currently behind Arnie, Diouf, and perhaps SJW.
His minutes and ability to complete 90 has been a let down. I think in the context if the lack of continuity and essentially being a winger etc a ratio of 1 goal in 5 and assists and his better corners.. it's not bad at all.
He's involved in training etc perhaps he's a luxury, but maybe in our environment he's able to better balance his unusual physiology.
Havn't been able to see owt of today.. Fingers crossed for a good run of games in the run in. He'll have to be performing well to displace the competition.

Would make sense - you'd think he'd need to go to a Champs League calibre club if he's leaving England purely for his wages.

Just watched Shaqiri playing for the Swiss. He played central midfield just behind the strikers and was very effective and comfortable. Perhaps Hughes should look at playing him there!!!

So you don't think he could have possibly regained full fitness in the seven days since our last game? According to our manager, he's been fit in the build up to our last two games, and not even made the bench for either. Now, miraculously he's ready to start a game. Bowen actually said before the Chelsea game that he was fit enough to play but HE & STOKE didn't want to risk him playing so soon and HIM & STOKE wanted to use the internationals & friendlies to get him through playing 90 minutes and back up to speed! That is fact, just for all you doubting Shaq's comittment, get the facts right first fellas, it helps a lot 👍

Patience, Shaqiri, Arnie, Ramadan and Berahino will be a dream attack. Shaq has had the scar tissue problem in his calf dealt with. He will be perfect in a number 10 role. Who's this new lad 'Patience'?

Totally agree mate, which pisses me off because I am a big fan of his, but surely that's why he signed for us and not a big team because of his injuries! Like I say I am a huge fan but I don't think we can afford to keep him playing 2/3rds every season, I was merely pointing out the reason he didn't play against Chelsea and did for Switzerland, it was what STOKE wanted facts are facts!

Shaqiri got us the points at Hull, big hand in the win at Sunderland, inspired a point at Boro. Did he put the cross in for Allen's goal at home to West Brom as well? .. anyway, he's been more influential for my money this season compared to last but unfortunately we've not got to see him string a run of games together. He was starting in games where we won at Watford and draw at Old Trafford also.
Now, I have no problem with people saying we should get rid because of his injury record because even I'm getting sick of it now but I refuse to believe he's been "hit and miss" I just think people were expecting a lot more from him than he's actually capable of doing on a consistent basis.
The long and short of it for me is we're a better team with him in it. Arnie and Berahino being 2 players who need his service badly.

I can honestly recall him having one bad game this season, Southampton at home, but who didn't, we were woeful defense aside. He got subbed and showed a bit of frustration / passion.
Other than that he's been influential in most if not all of his other games.
If we let him, Bojan and Imbula leave then Hughes should walk with them.

It will be crazy if we let those three go, the truth is we have peaked - it's going to take an insane amount of money for us to get any higher, even if we gamble with a change of manager. Long term stability is more important for the club. That said, it's getting stale again and I wouldn't be against a new manager to bring some new energy back to the club, but it's a gamble I don't expect Coates to take.

I just don't see how the manager can last the summer if Shaq and Imbula are sold. How can he be trusted to spend a decent amount of money again? That's 31m spunked up the wall. The recruitment team would need fecking off too.
I don't think for one second though that we should sell Shaq. We need to find a fitness plan for him to keep him fit.
