Afellay is not as good as Whelan at what Whelan does best but Afellay must start somewhere as he is the most competent midfielder we have.

I'm just finding it increasingly difficult to pick a balanced team. It's getting nigh on impossible. It's all been covered. But an ambundance of attacking midfielders, no cover at left back to challenge,a shortage of centre halves, an ageing Whelan, Shaq, bojan and imbula seemingly not up for the challenge, having to rely on crouch and Walters...still. sobhi not really getting a look in when he's here. Three at the back, diouf at wingback when he's here, the team not settled and constantly changing. Pissed off at the moment.

I would go with
Grant Bardo-Ryan-Indi-Eric Allen-Adam Shaq-Affelay-Arnie Walters
Sorry I really do not know who I would play and apologise for selecting SJW, but like many of you are struggling up top

The scariest thing about this is that Peter Crouch is our first choice centre forward. Not having a go at him but that's not good is it. No its an absolute piss take.

I think whatever Hughes decides to do against Sunderland he will have major criticism from some Stoke fans. He will be under the microscope with many hoping he fails. I fully expect a positive result on Saturday and I expect Hughes to retain his belief in his players and his methods. I do not expect to see any changes in the defence with a basic back four of Johnson, Shawcross, Indi, Pieters. Grant in goal. I do think that we will see Whelan, Affelay and Allen in the midfield with Arnautovic and Shaqiri in wide positions. He will probably go with Crouch up front but personally would love to see NGoy start because he has the ability and pace to cause trouble.

Same team that started the second half v Wolves with two changes:
Grant Bardsley Pieters Indi Shawcross Adam Allen Afellay Shaqiri Arnie Berahino or N'Goy if that deal doesn't happen
That midfield three was excellent, can understand the calls for Whelan though.
Sunderland will have the slowest centre back pairing of all time in O'Shea and Kirchoff so daft not to go with pace.

He won't be playing.

The options up front are very limited. Bony and Diouf are at the ACON, and Walters is doubtful. So It's Crouch, N'goy or Bojan. I'd give Bojan one last chance in a false 9 with Allen behind him. That combination worked for a while against Leicester, we didn't have Arni and Sunderland are not as good as Leicester (they are really slow). There's not much to lose because we never get much there anyway.

Crouch IMHO this is probably the best team we could field. I would probably try Ngoy first half with crouch as a sub later.
