Same team that started the second half v Wolves with two changes: Grant Bardsley Pieters Indi Shawcross Adam Allen Afellay Shaqiri Arnie Berahino or N'Goy if that deal doesn't happen That midfield three was excellent, can understand the calls for Whelan though. Sunderland will have the slowest centre back pairing of all time in O'Shea and Kirchoff so daft not to go with pace. You're half right. Kirchhoff plays in midfield for us & is injured for a while. He won't be playing. nice whats Sunderland team? Manone Manquilo & Van Anholt as fullbacks Danayer & O'Shea midfield 3 of Rodwell,Larson & Gooch (or Pienar) Borini,Janazai & Defoe with kids on the bench? Mike Dean is the ref so your front three should earn a penalty Stokes record at Sunderland is shocking however assuming we have a positively aggressive reaction to the FA Cup fiasco & given SAFC's lack of options we really should be looking to win this one

Nobody knows what team Hughes will concoct for this one. Sunderland played very well at home against Liverpool so he needs to be careful with his selection. It will be tough game and one he needs fighters.

Hughes will go back to basics and play the majority of the old guard.

Best way for hughes to let the overpaid puss in boots know who is in control is leave the rot at home and let them know they are free to leave . fill the bench spaces with players from the U23's if need be.
When questioned about it on t.v & radio tell the world if they havn't got the stomach for it they arn't needed.
Kudos, kudos everywhere

We are missing the following players due to injury/ACON though: Pickford Kone Ndong Khazri Kirchhoff Cattermole Anichebe Pienaar Watmore Gooch McNair Jones (slight doubt, so may be good for the bench). So yeah, we've had awful look with injuries so far, most of the above are long term. I'd say the team will be this: Mannone Love O'Shea Djilobodji Van Aanholt Denayer (DM) Borini Larsson Rodwell Januzaj Defoe Bench will be mainly kids, maybe Anichebe will be fit enough to be on the bench. Given the amount of injuries we have, the owner simply has to make cash available this window. We are there for the taking but so are you given your recent poor performances. We need the points more but another loss for you lot could be the start of something catastrophic for Hughes. I can't call which way this game will go to be honest!

Something quite telling in this post on the Roker Report: Says it all, really. Ngoy, Bojan or Arnie in the CF spot for me, not Crouch. If big Pete plays we won't score even if we play for 600 minutes. Grant Johnson Shawcross Bruno Pieters Allen Whelan Shaqiri Afellay Arnautovic Bojan But i'm 99% sure it will be: Grant Johnson Shawcross Bruno Pieters Walters Allen Adam Afellay Arnie Crouch If all fit to play, the latter will surely be Hughes' "safety first" selection (Whelan for Adam or Afellay maybe?). Where that leaves Shaq and Bojan in terms of his affections and their possibly getting itchy feet, I have no idea. Shaq seems to have an ego as big as his calves, so will not be prepared to slum it on the bench for too long, especially with the transfer window open.

In all seriousness, I agree with you. But he fits the bill for this match as the striker, so it's worth mentioning him. Plus - if he actually has a positive effect, I still think we should go false-9 (BMX) against the Shit at home. Thought Imbula was much shittier on Sat, so he doesn't even get a mention.

Get ready for an Oatcake board meltdown at the FT whistle. We've never won at the SoL in the league and seem to make hard work of games against Sunderland at the best of times.
We are in poor form, not playing well and have no pace to counter them with. The only surprise to me will be when Stoke fans are surprised we get beaten in this match.
Nailed on 2-0 win for Sunderland

I'm going for 2-0 to Sunderland. I'm completely baffled and bemused over the team Hughes will probably select but I think he will go with the old stagers for this game.
Dismal weekend on the Oatie to look forward to after yet another defeat to the bloody Mackems !

I came up last season thinking things would be different but after Shawcross red card it was a stroll for your lads. Had a few pre match drinks in a makeshift tent thing attached to a pub opposite the ground. I froze my crackers off for nothing but a long face and a long journey home back down the motorway
