Because Leicester thrives on counters and it would leave us more exposed to that? Seems like that would be the case, but then again we have kept clean sheets with this setup. Just playing devil's advocate here.

There's no way Hughes will change the back line
Grant Johnson Shawcross Indi Pieters Adam Whelan Diouf Allen Shaq Walters/Bony

Grant Johnson Shawcross Muniesa Martins indi Pieters Imbula Allen Shaqiri Ramadan Diouf Nice balance to that side. Danger is you get outnumbered in the middle however Muniesa is smart enough to move into midfield during spells.

Shaqiri does not deserve to be anywhere near the team with the effort he has shown in the last two matches.

If ever there is the opportunity to shuffle the pack, it's over the Christmas period with Arnie suspended. Rob Huth would be delighted to mark Super Jon. It would be a Battle Royal, but Bojan dancing on ice like Jack Frost between him and Morgan would be their Nightmare Before Christmas. Leicester will defend deep, so Diouf's pace through the middle might be nullified. I just don't think MH fancies him there any more anyway. I would like to see a 4-2-3-1. This gives plenty of cover against Vardy's pace, puts Glen Johnson up against their most creative threat, Mahrez, and allows the option of Muni at leftback if Eric isn't fit. Glenn screens the back 4 with Gianelli, who goes box to box to support Joe and Bojan. Grant Johnson Shawcross Martins Indi Muniesa Whelan Imbula Shaqiri Allen Shobi Bojan Bit of pace, potentially lots of creativity and movement with plenty of support from midfield. Let's move Huth and Morgan all over the park for 90 minutes. Plenty of options on the bench. Changes would be Charlie for Imbula if we are too open, with Bony or N'Goy to come on for Bojan if the ball doesn't stick up front. Alternatively, Allen could drop deeper to replace Glenn or Imbula, and Bojan could drop back into a 10 role behind Wilf. All I want for Christmas is to see Bojan Krkic playing football like we know he can: happy and smiling, brilliant touch and movement with a couple of goals. What have we got to lose? we're short of goals anyway at the moment. The lad is a super talented goal scorer - lets give him a chance up front against these two old fashioned centre halves. Come on Stoke - let's have a Happy Christmas - starting Satdee! That's a persuasive argument

Just seen okey-dokey Stoke 2 argument for 4241 with Bojan up top on the match day thread and have to say that's won me over given the opposition.
This side and shape might be good against someone else though

Got to be some rotation, Pieters looks like needs r n r, Adam's a bit too risky and reckless and Arnie's enforced break requires a re thinking of the left.
Muniesa, Imbula, Ramadan as replacements keeps the shape from yesterday. But I reckon Diouf merits a start on recent showings but not sure where? Instead of who? Shaq or SJW, or Arnie?
Some real dilemmas on which way to go.. who can cope with 3 games in 8 days etc etc. Joe Allen, Adam, Muniesa? Dunno.
I was a bit underwhelmed with the 20 minutes of the return to the back four. Though I enjoyed the Rip Roaringness of the rest of it.
With the absence of Arnie and the return of Johnson and Ryan it poses questions about the balance of the 343. Wonder if Johnson could play left side (did for Liverpool.)
I'd go funky and smash their foxheads.
Grant Shawcross Bruno Johnson Diouf Whelan Imbula Ramadan Shaq N'Goy Bojan
Movement, revolving front three and Gianelli smashing through. Bruno snuffing out Vardy and Whelan blocking Mahrez. (Fingers crossed etc.)
Scratches head, but not terrible dilemmas. The element of surprise surprise in tact.
Wonder if the former tinkerman Ranieri will mix his shit up to face us?

3-5-2
Grant
Johnson Shawcross Bruno
Diouf Allen Whelan Imbula Muniesa
Bojan Bony
Diouf and Muniesa the wing backs with Glenn and Joe the defensive midfielders allowing Imbula more freedom to drive forward bearing in mind how defensively inept he is. Try anything to get Bojan a game and the best from Imbula!! It was a toss up between Shaq and Imbula but Imbula would be better suited for that role. Shaq should really be on the bench following his last couple of efforts.

Not really bothered about the formation so long as Shaqiri and Imbula are no where near the pitch.

I haven't seen the post but any argument for 4-2-4-1 seems to be fundamentally flawed imho ...

Shaq had an off day v Southampton but the circumstances of being down to 10 didnt suit him. He's still one of the players we have that can unlock the opposition. I'm with the OP on his lineup. Got a bit of everything and we need a bit more pace which we'd have without Adam, Walters and Whelan.

I hope so, the starting 11 on weds filled me with pessimism, and up until the sending off we did not look good. Same with Arsenal, we were always a threat until Pieters got a knock and we went 4 at the back. We have looked much better with 3 at the back + wingbacks.

Wingbacks against Mahrez? A bit too big headed Pep for me... Why? Dont use Man City's horrific defending the other day as a case against wing-backs. It was the atrocious play of the back three that fooked it up.

Wingbacks against Mahrez? A bit too big headed Pep for me... Swings 'n' roundabouts - the back three could help against Vardy's pace down the channels and the wing backs could push up on the wingers denying them freedom to operate.

And with the young uns Whelan's experience to counter balance it perhaps. Joe would be fost name on the bench.

Swings 'n' roundabouts - the back three could help against Vardy's pace down the channels and the wing backs could push up on the wingers denying them freedom to operate. Agree with that. Interesting how Hughes talks about it offering 'the extra defender'. A man marker for Vardy? Thought myself once Diouf came on the reargaurd was a wing back approach Diouf and Charlie. It's not the 3 that inherently makes a team any leakier or vulnerable imo. It's the way that you do it. Benefit for me is it's made us look less ponderous going forward.

Unbelievable that Leicester as champions have taken only 1 away point out of 24 in the PL so far. To say they are overdue a win is an understatement and whatever team we put out I fear we are fated to lose. Just our luck to be their first victims. Pessimism rules !

Walters much too slow. Hope Hugh's grows a pair and goes with youth, ie: start Sohbi and Bojan and see how it goes. If not, change things early instead of trying to chase a game, which we have trouble doing these days! If Walters, Whelan, Crouch etc start, nailed on Leicester win....but would love to be proved wrong.
