There's just no excuse for putting in first halves like that at Prem level, doesn't matter if it's the players not getting what Sparky's telling them or Sparky misreading games ahead of time, either way it comes down to management. In mitigation it was an unlucky pen miss of Bojan's imho (but then Bournemouth were denied a stonewall pen) and we were at least in the game after HT.
Can't go higher than 5*

He picked a good team. I don't rate Whelan but I'll gladly eat humble pie as to how important he is to the side. Charlie couldn't keep up with the pace of the game, he offered no cover for Joey. I'd suggest Imbula and Allen until he's fit. Bojan looked really out of his depth which is unusual but it's worrying me. The team just didn't function at all. As I've said, Hughes had 3 subs to play with but he mucked up big time, Crouch I've got no problems with because Wilf was having yet another shocking preformance. But why leave Adam on? I love SJW but he offered nothing, Ramadan must be wondering what's going on. I sense favouritism amongst the ranks. Overall, a poor display from the lads which Hughes couldn't do nothing about, but his subs have affected my rating for him. 6*

6. Good team put out. Obviously put some life back into them after half time. Forced into Bardsley change and IMO Bony. Then Walters for Bojan??? Much rather bring on Ramadan, switch Shaq into middle and go for it. I could even understand bringing on Imbula and sending Super Joe up front.

4* from me got the balance of team wrong and this allowed Bournemouth's energy to dictate the game also tactical subs were poor.
We seemed ill prepared for the high tempo game of Bournemouth and Bony was totally isolated without the workrate of Allen near him , the ne up front has to be looked at when Allen is not able to cover for the lack of effort of others
Not his fault we missed so many chances though that sits with the players

5 not a disaster not a great day however, shows the importance of competing players in EVERY position and not moving what was working to accommodate people who do not offer the same.
The old adage of 2 wrongs don't make a right comes to mind. Moving Joe was stupid.
I hope our lads don't think the season has just started again and get back up to speed sharpish.

Serious questions have to be asked:
Did Hughes really need to disrupt the team as much as he did? Allen needed to remain where he has starred and where Bony needed support.
We lose Whelan and Cameron, so why on earth didn't Hughes give Imbula a chance? Why can't Diouf get anywhere near the team? Muniesa is a similar situation - If not Imbula, why not Muniesa?
Hughes has some serious explaining regarding his spending - Sir Peter should be asking serious questions about Hughes inability in not being able to manage Diouf (£6m) and Imbula (£18m) - £24m assets. Will Sohbi go the same way?
Finally, how much longer do we have to put up with the piffling results (I.e. the regularity of our number of home defeats in the first third of each season)?

I agree about Imbula. Diouf not good enough sums it up when his best display was at Full Back. Muniesa a nice guy but not good enough either at left back or centre half, thats why people keep suggesting him as a defensive mid fielder.

Galling display from the management and the team today. It was like the start of the season again where we looked half arsed and devoid of ideas and purpose. The big thing for me is not how amazing Glen Whelan must be etc etc but how badly we need an athletic CDM. Too many floaty short arses that don't dig in. Joe Allen in CAM is crucial to us having any chance of scoring a goal and having a good season. We blunted our attack due to not addressing the CDM situation and because of injuries we moved Allen back and it didn't work.

8 Lost have we, on chances alone we should of won 4-2!
Starting 11 was right for me. Playing Allen deeper HIS ROLE ALL HIS CAREER UNTIL coming stoke was right with GC out with GW. Playing Imbula and Adam together might of been a bigger disaster! If bojan was gonna get a start then today was the day with those two above Out and his confidence boost at West Ham that was the right call to go with but it didn't work today, IF he scored the pen his tail would of been up and the crowd up plus the whole team is up and we beat them convincingly I reckon.
One of those horrible days today which after the pen Miss was never gonna happen for us sadly.
We Move on.

4 - Thought the selection was good but the players let him down. But when things aren't working you do something to change things but he had no proper answer and Howe out thought him.

Yet another occasion over the past 3 seasons being frustrated and beaten by a well organised team of decent but average players Eddie Howe out thought Hughes today *4

werent they our 'saviours' at West Ham? Don't you think we need better. Of course they are getting near to the end of their careers but at the moment they are the best we have. Both deserve better respect than they get on here for what they have done for the club.

7 - First of all let's get something straight, Bournemouth deserved the win today & there's no 2 ways about it. Now that that's out of the way, I honestly think people are being really harsh here today & are completely over-exaggerating the incompetence of our performance. Yes we were poor but think of the chances we had today, a header cleared off the line in the first half, a missed penalty, Walters & Shaq missing absolute sitters. We could've easily taken not just 1 but 3 points, even if it might have been undeserved. We were poor defensively in the first half but we improved as the game went on. Bournemouth had just 2 attempts on goal, both of which came inside the first 20 minutes of the game.
And it's an easy thing to criticise the team selection in hindsight but the fact is pretty much everyone on this board agreed until 3PM this afternoon that that was the best lineup he could've sent out, given the absence of our 2 defensive midfielders. Allen is a much more defensive minded player than Imbula.
And everyone on here criticising the manager for bringing on Crouch & Walters need to put on their objective lenses because both substitutions had an immediate impact. They may not like them but the fact is after their introduction, we caused Bournemouth a lot of problems & had atleast 6 decent attempts at goal in the last 20 minutes. And seriously what will it take for Crouchy to earn a bit of respect from Stoke supporters. Whenever he's come on from the bench (be it West Brom, United or West Ham) he has had an impact. Hughes had every reason to turn to him. Bringing on someone like Imbula or Ramadan would've been ineffective because the problem was not the individual players, the system wasn't working & the change to 4-4-2 was a smart move.
What more could he have done? Hughes has made his fair share of mistakes but it's unfair to pin today's defeat on him? It's just one of those days that you get over & move on.

The fact that most of this board loved that team selection is neither here nor there. Managers are not paid to be populist and a big chunk of any support will always want the 10 most attacking outfield players- even though it never works as they expect. But that's why they pay to watch a team rather than get paid to manage one.
MH had little choice with the starting team today due to injury.
And really that's the biggest negative - he is still dependent upon two ageing TP signings, four years and 40 million plus pounds later. So a 4 for me on that basis.
