Thought Grant had his most complete performance today.
Really pleased to see him take more command of his 6 yard box. He seemed to communicate better with his defenders and looked altogether more confident.

Can't praise him enough - he has grabbed his chance with both hands and on current form it's a mystery how he didn't get a crack at the Premier League untill now.

He has been a fantastic signing. He shows great confidence and he is not afraid to shout at and organise his defence. I think he is the calm head that we needed and outfield players clearly have confidence in him, something which they obviously didnt with shay given between the sticks.
Butland is our number 1 based on previous form, but considering he hasnt played a minute of football since march he has got a huge battle to get back in the side. Grant needs to be signed on a permanent deal, given should be retained in a coaching capacity and i would dispose of haugaard at the first opportunity.

Certainly in form and very much part of the reasons for our change in fortunes. I'm sure he isn't small but he doesn't look like one of these tall muscular keepers that seems to be the prerequisite for the Premier League.

Best thing about Grant, as i've said on previous threads, has been his absolute refusal to get sucked into the habit both Butland and given have had, of rolling the ball out short when the opposition are playing a high press.
We have taken instructions to play out from the back too literally at times and that comes straight from the influence of the keeper. Time and again we have gone short straight into trouble and end losing the ball or having to go long without picking someone out.
Grants come in and immediately started to go long whenever the oppo press high. That's forced the opposition back 5-10 yards and given the defence time to play out properly when we do go short. It's also brought Bony into play his back to goal, which adds a string to our bow as we haven't had anyone who could hold the ball up for us properly for a while.

I can see the grant or butland choice? Dividing opinion on here, when the time comes. But imo you can't drop a keeper or anyone else for playing well. He is playing well as an individual and at the same time communicating well with his back four and team mates. Hard to fault and deservedly one of the first names on the team sheet

Grant is bloody brilliant and although there are are a multitude of reasons for our recovery since WBA, Grant is clearly one of the biggest. The job he's done has been awesome, it reminds me of when TP signed Mark Crossley and the team improved, ut wasn't all down to that but it was massively instrumental. After such a long layoff Jack simply cannot walk straight back in while Grant is this good. And incidentally how long before we start to fear that Jack may be finished? It isn't unheard of for injuries of this nature to eventually force retirement. Even if he does recover, we don't have a great rday cord with players returning from long term injuries, they tend to be shadows of their former selves. Go on, flame away.

Goalkeeper is one of two (the other being left back) where England genuinely have half a dozen players to choose from.

He was thrust into the spotlight way, way too early. I recall Jack getting some stick after his first couple of games, Haugaard was never intended to be an immediate first team regular.

The bloke is an absolute credit to himself and his position. He's come in and done a job with a commanding presence, and right now on his current form I would not drop him for Butland if Jack was fully fit and available for our next game. Grant has more than deserved his place has our No 1 keeper, and long may it continue. A great asset to our club.
On a side note, his attitude is second to none in the game too. Did you see his reaction after just missing out on getting to the deflected goal they scored yesterday. A top, top professional who truly cares about the team he is playing for, and fortunately for us right now, that is Stoke City F C.

It will be a bit of a dilemma. Grant, good though he is, is in his early thirties. If he keeps Jack out of the team, I can see Jack agitating for a move when the big clubs come sniffing, and we could end up losing him much sooner than we would want to. And we end up with a keeper who is older than both Bego and Jack as our number one. I think he is an excellent number two and that's how it should stay.

There's no reason to rush Butland back while Grant is playing so well. He's done nothing wrong and his distribution is better than Butland's. We have the luxury of playing Butland in slowly maybe in the FA Cup and see how he does.

It's not just skill, it's attitude and presence. Rare to see all three together. Assuming we stay up, he should join the roll call of players who have 'kept us up' over the years. He is a credit to the club, the league and the profession, actually.

He's probably got a nice decision to make coming up.
He's done enough to earn a contract with us - basically as Given's replacement. That's going to be a step up from not playing at Derby but is still going to be essentially a non-playing role.
I'd also have though that his performances, being in the top division and so on the tele, would prompt somebody to offer him a starting spot.

What a signing this bloke is, get him on a permanent deal in January! Noticed he's incredible when there is an awkward shot coming at him, some keepers like to knock it down to themselves then drop on it But everything that comes at him is secured straight away with little hassle. Not sure what Derby are doing but Scott Carson must be the greatest keeper to walk this earth. I know that Jack is a world class keeper, but would it be unfair for him to come straight back in? He tends to catch low between his legs with his hands, but keepers are always taught when learning to always make sure you get your body behind the ball too just in case. Causes me to have a mini heart attack every time he takes one of them but every single one has stuck and I have no doubt they will continue to, won't stop me having an instinctive heart attack though. He's been excellent, should be extending past January and looking to get him in permanently to solve the back up issue for a few years. He will have known when he signed and told by Mark Hughes that when Butland is fit he'll be his back up anyway and will have accepted it anyway. Looked out for this on Saturday and you're quite right. Didn't see it before, I shit myself a little bit But like you say he's managed to keep that in his game while being solid! Got to agree with your other points aswell, general opinion seems to be Butland straight back in, can't argue with it tbf

I thought he was excellent again. Good solid saves, punched when he needed to and caught when he could. The most impressive thing is how he constantly talks to his back 3/4/5 and how the listen and respond.
Would be very unfair on the lad if Jack comes straight back in once fit as much as I rate Jack

I like him and I'm very much in the 'sign him up in January' camp. I was just intrigued as to what he did yesterday that sparked the resurrection of a thread that's had no posts for the last 3 weeks. It was one of the easiest away games he'll ever have had at any level. He didn't have to work very hard for his clean sheet. I suppose it's better than multiple threads on the same subject though. But if he's fit and when he's match fit, Jack is a shoe in. Lee Grant is a good steady Premier League keeper Jack Butland is world class.

I really, really like him and Jack will have to hope for a few blunders 'cos if he keeps this run of form going our Jack will be the Cup specialist. This last 6 months has really shown us how important it is to have two top drawer keepers.

Was world class. He'll have been out for 8 months by the time he is fit again. The old saying goes 'Form is temporary class is permanent' I love Jack, but i'm also thrilled we've got a stunning No.2 who can cover for our No.1... Jack's suffered a crap injury. If he can get back to his old self nobody will be more chuffed than me.
