We won't play many weaker sides this season but a few weeks ago I wouldn't have trusted us to come away from today's game with a point. We're so much tighter now, looking more and more like ourselves each week and have I mentioned lately how much I love you Joe Allen?? For me the way Sparky set us up and handled the game was a nice sane balance of making sure we posed enough of a threat but ensured we were solid too. Could niggle with a few details but it's 8* from me please add * if you were there

You have the biggest neck in the world to continur with these threads when you want him out.
Everything was spot on. 10.

I have a very nice neck thanks and we're still in the Bottom 3 after a dire start to the season, we're still lumped with a terrible GD - great that we're picking up, I'll keep on rating the games as I see them, none of this is done with an anti-LMH filter on but he has a hell of a lot of proving to do still for me, that's all. Meantime he's our manager, this is our club, the last thing I'm going to do's trash him for the sake of it.

I usually stand by hughes but today I'm struggling. Team picked itself. But the substitutions were simply ridiculous. Luckily we played the worst team in the league. But thank God we won.

Would've been 10 had he not brought on Walters. 9 As bad as they were, must say we played some very nice football at times.

I could see the point of bringing on SJW and Charlie - 8.5 for me * The team did pick itself, but we won TFFT

Best starting line up when we need to grind out a result in a potentially very difficult game - disappointed for Bojan however
Substitutions
No choice in Allen and Bardsley needing to be replaced.
Initial idea Cameron for Bardsley (at RB) and Adam for Allen - made a very unbalanced team BUT he adjusted this, bringing on Muniesa so that Cameron could return to midfield - I thought that Geoff had a very good game
However! Diouf was the obvious choice for Bony (if he needed replacing), Sunderland had to push forward and pace up front would have been a better move imo
At the end of the day we got 3 points , a clean sheet, another card for Arnie (is that 4?) and another injury to Bardsley?

7* . Walters was a baffling sub today , not sure how long he's going to persevere with the bony ACN personal fitness programme . Diouf or bojan should have come on in his stead

I understand why Imbula isn't involved atm (I don't agree with it btw) but what's the point in leaving Sobhi out and having 4 strikers on the bench? The bench is totally unbalanced and he needs to sort it out soon. Walters should be dropped from the squad for the Hull game but it won't happen.

7 for me. The subs he made and those included on the subs bench like GF says above need sorting.

Good performance. Joe, Arnie and Shaq were great.
Walters sub a bit odd. Muni inspired. Would've like to have seen Boj for a bit instead of SJW

5 its the team carries us. hughes didnt do much. subs were crap. but he didnt do to much stupid. So who came up with the idea to put Cameron alongside Whelan thus giving Allen licence to float about which has led to his goalscoring exploits ? Hughes or did the players decide among themselves in training?

It's a 9 from me, minus points for bringing Walters on.

9 for me. Right starting line up in the circumstances with injuries. Deserves credit for having the balls to drop record signing Imbula (and accept the responsibility for wasting so much money) and bringing Cameron into midfield which is reaping dividends now and has released Allen to play in a more forward role which is obviously working well for us right now. Grant is turning out to be a good signing too. Loses a point though for bringing Walters on and stifling all of our creativity going forward. It should have been like for like with Diouf, experiment with Bojan or keep Bony on in the hope he finds that he goal he needs.

8. Let down by bringing ruddy Walters on, who by now we must assume knows something nasty about someone senior.
Disagree that he wasted money on Imbula, I think his time will come.

We beat perhaps the worst team we have ever faced in the Premier League-and that is saying something.
Anything other than a win and a clean sheet would have been a disaster.

I thought Bojan would have had a 'field day' against them late in the game

7 the team was willing to win.
Subs: I can´t understand, but it seems that our manager and Walters have much fun together in the shower, otherwise i can´t explain to bring a player every week (instead of Bojan or Diouf) who has been far away from a competitive Premier League player for several months

7 - in truth they were so abject it is hard to judge the performance. Not that convincing ,but still we are going in the right direction. Central defence at last looking more convincing.

9, only because of the Walters sub or else he would of got a 10. The other two Had to happen due to injury so how he can be slated for those is just pathetic tbh.
He has slowly steadied the ship and we look a very good outfit again which can get results and people said he couldn't do this and that he had lost the dressing room! Those people Know Fuck All!
Well done Mark you have stayed calm along with peter Coates and hopefully now we keep climbing that table.
Come on stoke
