I've tried to ignore it but every day the term 'would of' 'should of' 'could of'. I know it's petty.....................

The increasing use of this phrase is a damning testimony to the malaise that afflicts our language.
I wonder if Admin might consider a one week ban for first time miscreants, along with a '3 strikes and your out' policy for repeat offenders?

Rather than the 'out' belonging to you? your out, possessive like. Nowt more irksome than an incorrect pedant. Should have the perspicacity to impose a wan week self bar perhaps. imo

Can we also include those that start their sentences; So....
Or a response to a question; So...
Just stop for a moment and don't take the lazy route.

Can we also include those that start their sentences; So.... Or a response to a question; So... Just stop for a moment and don't take the lazy route. I could not agree more passionately. I am sick of people starting their sentences with "so". It's a conjunction, for goodness sake (or a coordinating conjunction or an adverb). You cannot start a sentence with "so" under any circumstances! What is most surprising is that well-educated people seem to have picked up this habit more than others in society. The deterioration of our language, both spoken and written, continues to alarm me. It's hardly the same English I learned at school 40 years ago.

I totally agree, the have/of, there/their, your/you're etc misuse has been driving me mad for some time. I do wonder what has happened to our language, and the way that it is taught to make people use it so badly nowadays.
I just thought that it was my intolerance over such things (my wife says I am getting worse as I get older), but I am glad to see that there are quite a few of us who feel the same.
What can be done about it ? Little or nothing I suspect as it's just another symptom of a gradual deterioration or more likely laziness of society.
Happy days.
