I lived with a Geordie girl for while who, during her schooling, had been the 'victim' of some new method of teaching English in a school in Jarrow.
She used to write letters to me starting with 'Dear Sweatheat' when I was away at sea :-X

I totally agree, the have/of, there/their, your/you're etc misuse has been driving me mad for some time. I do wonder what has happened to our language, and the way that it is taught to make people use it so badly nowadays. I just thought that it was my intolerance over such things (my wife says I am getting worse as I get older), but I am glad to see that there are quite a few of us who feel the same. What can be done about it ? Little or nothing I suspect as it's just another symptom of a gradual deterioration or more likely laziness of society. Happy days. Agree completely! I also shudder anytime I hear anyone say 'I fink' instead of 'I think'.
