In the model world, which did you prefer as a child growing up?
Planes - airfix kits, remote control planes, etc Trains - hornby, etc Automobiles - scalextric, remote controlled cars, etc.
For me it was always trains, from the first time my nan bought me a train set, I was hooked.

None for me, I used to make miniature furniture out of wooden clothes pegs (with Yahoo glue, if I remember correctly).

Planes and automobiles for me,had the classic Airfix Kits: Mosquito,Spitfire,Lancaster et al.Was good at making the kits, not so hot when it came to painting them.
Had a large Aurora slot car racing set mounted on two boards, the old man made a panorama for it out of chicken wire and paper maché,floodlit, the works,...was the envy of my mates with that kit, preferred it to Scalextric as the cars were smaller but more detailed, bought from Cars and Tractors in Etruria: what a magical cornucopia that place seemed to a young kid.

Train set....I had a Hornby clockwork train set and was mad on Airfix WW2 planes and had them hanging from my bedroom ceiling. But my pride and joy was Meccano and had loads of it. Even today I have four Meccano technical workshop kits that I bought off Shpock for my Grandson for peanuts. They've got electric motors, gearboxes and many instruction manuals. Guessing kids today prefer x box etc.

Haven't been on it though since Santa made a special visit to see the kids.

A lot goes on at Cheddleton, they've got a dirty great big American engine hidden there somewhere. Very impressive, but then I'm slightly biased.

Sensational scenery and sights. I wonder if they will ever get it back to Stoke. It's kinda stopped at Endon and nothing happened.

You've just reminded me that many moons ago I did one of the lunch cruises on the canal at Froghall....heavily recommended for the greenery and scenery.

I do believe it was the Corbett Arms. We'd persuaded a friend who never went on holiday to come with us. Tried to book into the Treffidian hotel but it was fully booked but got into one called the Bontddu hall hotel which was the polar opposite of the Tywyn experience

My favourite game was based around the Hornby train set and army planes and vehicles. It was loosely based on "von ryans express" and there were hundreds of those little airfix soldiers that you used to get 48 in a box for a few quid. They all had to positioned on the train or around the track, and then knocked over in the ensuing battle. All the germans would die or be captured, with a few heroic brit commandos surviving on the train. Kids today, they think it all has to be done on a console using code of honour...

It's all coming back to me now. We chose it because we were taking the dogs and we got to our room and arranged for the friend to come to us when she'd dropped her bags off. I asked if her room was ok, she replied "I think they've given me the DSS room"
