What are the 96 families doing about persistent standing on the Kop? Or is that OK? a very valid point, pretty sure they stand when away from home too just don't understand why they should have a say on how every other club in the land should operate Because it's Liverpool and you're not allowed to do anything that might upset them.

until the Liverpool fans start blarting that it cant happen, heard a debate on talksport the other night about this and the consensus was that it can be discussed but if the 96 families say no it shouldn't happen really annoyed me as we are now in a different era and it has proved to be safe abroad, all but one club is for it, and if that is the case let them stay as they are What are the 96 families doing about persistent standing on the Kop? Or is that OK? I know, can of worms and complex issues etc Re: Hillsborough, but haven't we recently discovered that it wasn't JUST because of standing that the disaster occurred? Yes, if it had been all seater it couldn’t of happened, but policed properly it wouldn't of happened. We can all see that Leppings Lane was a death trap, many other terraces (without pens) were safe, as long as capacity was controlled. Shall we just ban all cars/planes/trains etc - that way there will never be another car/plane/train accident?

what the fuck are you on about? Like it says on the tin .....anyway I'm out Are you denying that Hillsborough and the families won't have any influence over the decision on safe standing? They got the justice that they deserved but for them to influence this doesn't sit right when supporters of their own club stand everywhere in seated areas. Why aren't we hearing them speak out about this?

It is a valid point and I feel that future developments will bear the legacy of what happened before. That said, it and the J96 should not be determining factor in stopping future standing options.
I think standing areas or the German model of standing / seats should be seriously looked at.

Our best ever season in modern times was 74-75 when we were top at times, in Europe, looked like finishing a best ever 3rd with a few matches to go, but faded to 5th (again) in the last few matches. Our average attendance was 27,000 in a ground that could take over 40,000 and was a lot more easy to access than the present one. There is absolutely no point in a building a stand like Liverpool or creating grounds like Sunderland's or Newcastle's, or Villa's. To do so would be flirting with financial disaster. We cannot attract the size of crowds of those clubs. Steady development towards about 33,000 to match the likes of Leicester and Boro is the best we can realistically expect in the long term. The club is owned by people who know how to run a business. The ground is about the right size, and the correct policy is prudent development with the focus on the team not the ground. The facts here are all true but football had a very different place in society at that time. I've been a regular at Stoke since 1960 and the time when we were absolutely at our best was also the time when football was most despised by polite society. Nowadays everyone wants to be seen as a fan of football and it's also a major tourist attraction. For as long as we are in the Premier League, if we had the space and the marketing expertise, we would now be able to smash 30k every week, even bumping along in the bottom half of the league. Hopefully we'll be a little higher than that of course!
