Things that need doing: Fill the corner in. Another tier on the DPD. Boothen End increase in size as a single tier stand. Fill the opposite corner in, either seats or WBA style wind breaks. FAN ZONE! So you want all them extra seats, who's going sit in them? Can't even fill every seat now So using that logic why did we build 28k stadium when we were only getting 11k ?

My guess would be because they were aiming for the top division and the average when in the top division has been around that mark.

It's a shame we won't be getting 30 thousand crowds for home league games next season unless they cut the segregation down alot, at the current time we'd be 500 seats short of 30 thousand, I can remember thinking when Scholes was talking about looking forward to seeing regular 30k plus crowds every week, can he add up.

Absolutely disgraceful decision and another kick in the teeth for those loyal fans that turn up every other week and stand on the grass bank in all weathers, lifeblood of the club once again being ignored, with this so called improvement all these hardy souls can do now is simply stand there and listen.... Is this a wind up? You being serious?.. of course it is yer berk

Our best ever season in modern times was 74-75 when we were top at times, in Europe, looked like finishing a best ever 3rd with a few matches to go, but faded to 5th (again) in the last few matches. Our average attendance was 27,000 in a ground that could take over 40,000 and was a lot more easy to access than the present one.
There is absolutely no point in a building a stand like Liverpool or creating grounds like Sunderland's or Newcastle's, or Villa's. To do so would be flirting with financial disaster. We cannot attract the size of crowds of those clubs. Steady development towards about 33,000 to match the likes of Leicester and Boro is the best we can realistically expect in the long term. The club is owned by people who know how to run a business.
The ground is about the right size, and the correct policy is prudent development with the focus on the team not the ground.

Great news but as this is our 9th season in the Prem it is long overdue how ironic that our first game in the redeveloped stadium could be against the likes of Rotherham or Brentford. That won't happen..... Brentford will come up and Rotherham will go down!!!

It's even worse this season for the floating fan as season ticket sales are pretty much at capacity, price it right and we'll just sell more next season.....

Well we had full houses until the football turned sour under Pulis, the season after we had more than usual empty seats. Hughes came in and sales picked up, going off this message board this season is a disaster without giving us hope and making out like the same will happen

All of this good press and the club aren't running a 'Pack The Bet365' campaign similar to Orlando Citys 'Man The Wall' (Who now have an oversubscribed season ticket list btw) and offering people the chance for these new seats now. First time in a generation and all that.
What happened to the 'I am stoke city' stuff?
Sadly clueless commercial yet again...

We should be at 33K now, not fannying around with 1800 seats. Our commercial operation is about ambitious as a Pulis away day at Stamford Bridge. We could piss selling 35K with sensible pricing, flexible ticketing arrangements and match promotions in the media. All of which requires a bit of effort so it's a non-starter.

I would have thought that it was obvious that the corner between the North (Boothen) and West (Main) stands is the North West corner and not either the South East of North East corners as described in various parts of the Sentinel article. "And now the latest planning applications to Stoke-on-Trent City Council will, if approved, see a new giant screen measuring 10 metres high and six metres wide installed in the empty south-east corner between the Boothen End and main stand" and "An earlier plan to build a two-storey broadcast studio in the north-east corner has been replaced by plans to convert four existing hospitality boxes instead" As you can tell I was very bored watching England earlier and actually read The Sentinel cover to cover.

The open corners serve to let the city in to the ground and make the ground of the city, some day, after its too late, the Britannia 'mark 1' will be recognised as an accidental design classic! Close the corners and we have a few more seats and a bit less wind but we're Middleborough or Reading or anyone else.

You missed my point. Some people are posting above that Stoke should be making huge investments in ground facilities. My opinion is that the club are correct to make steady development of the ground in cautious steps. You never know, the day may come when Stoke could command a much higher following and could regret being hasty in just filling the corners and having to rework investments to increase ground capacity. I can't see it personally, but this season's performance is showing that the playing strength/performance is the over-riding consideration, not the ground. It is futile to have a much bigger capacity and end up relegated like some other clubs have done.

breaks my heart to have such a shite ground for our wonderful team. It really grates with me how awful the whole design is.
ok, i get that we will never move back 'home', but we really need to sort our ground out, even if its just basic aesthetics
Basics 1. clear an area at the front of the main stand, and put the Stanley Matthews Statue there for all to admire, at the moment, it been shore horned into a corner. Other teams have a a bit of history at their ground, like middlesborough have the old gates to their old place. 2.The scoreboard should be above the tunnel area - its already a mess, so may as well bang it up there instead of restricting views for others - i actually like looking at the grounds as much as the player - not some shite tv dangling from the celiing 3. Bigger concourse - just extend them back a bit - easy 4. Decoration / Art in the concourses - you go to other grounds and it feels well done - ours feels cheap and last minute. Needs serious thought about what to put in there. Perhaps HUGE murials of iconic photos (and done well, not on the cheap) 5. Queing system for the food/drinks - again, easily done 6. Lick of paint everywhere. 7. More staff for food and drink on a match day - give some local youngsters a spare bit of cash, we have loads, and it means we can get what we need quicker 8. Delilahs - complete overhaul. No soul in it at all. You feel more at home in a prison cell. 9. Areas for stoke fans to hang flags without obstructing sponsors - makes it less sterile
Ideally 10. Fill the Boothen corner in as well (hopefully standing) 11. The players tunnel area to be moved to the corner where the Boothen is, and the players have a large holding area before running up the stairs (like in a lot of continental grounds). 12. Current area of changing rooms, should be a corner full of media suites and proper executive boxes. This also links the 2 stands 13. Boothen to be extended up - one wall effect like Dortmund (ideally standing) 14. Executive boxes to be revamped and less Ikea 15 Bigger and more well stocked club shop 16. Get rid of the second ambulance 'road' by the boothen. Has it ever been used? Do other grounds have 2 like we do? 17. Any new stand developments, make sure the entrances are not right at the bottom. It looks shite, and i personally never understand ahving them there, when in an emergency, if you're mid/top of the stand, you can't get out, whilst the front rows can casually stroll onto the pitch 18. A real tannoy that doesn't give you tinnitus 19. Multi storey car park / dig underground 20. Another access road 21. Burn the incinerator down to the ground, and replace with an actual nice park and trees. Eyesore. 22. Mini train station that is only used on match days - for shuttle trains or the extra stop for trains from manchester or london
23 - or just more back and build a state of the art ground for 40k people and make it state of the art £250m etc. A lot easier
a long list, but i think thats the basic of what we need. A lot of it boils down to being done on the cheap (again). Spend some money getting it done properly Stoke, if you buy cheap, you buy twice.I think we need some consultant not connected to the club, coming down and giving a brutal assessment of the facilities, and how we can improve them with the highest quality possible
