Great news but as this is our 9th season in the Prem it is long overdue how ironic that our first game in the redeveloped stadium could be against the likes of Rotherham or Brentford.

I presume this will incorporate the replacement of the other seats in the ground too?

What does "provisional work" involve, which starts in Jan?

What does "provisional work" involve, which starts in Jan? Ground work, steel manufacturing, that sort of stuff

I presume this will incorporate the replacement of the other seats in the ground too? I think the Boothen, South Stand and the rest of the Seddon will be done next summer, with the main stand done in 2018 (iirc).

We should now be at the stage of filling in the Boothen corner - the scoreboard should of been done 5 years ago.
Just got a feeling this is an opportunity missed.

the corners should of been filled in 20yrs ago when the stadium was built, hindsight a wonderful thing though

1800 more is shit to be fair. Still have a pitiful ground compared to most prem teams and a lot of championship clubs.

The negativity of Stoke fans never ceases to amaze me. Views vary between "too late", "too little", "waste of money" and it seems whatever the club do it will never be enough or it will be too slow. Thankfully there are a few appreciative fans.
There is also ignorance in many of the comments. We are blessed that we have an astute ownership who steadily invest in the club facilities and are wise to concentrate resources on the playing side of the club. The ground wasn't even fully owned by the club when it was built, many said it was a "white elephant" and would rarely be filled (if ever) and the money the club put in would bankrupt the club or should have been better spent on players. We were lucky the Britannia BS were prepared to sponsor the club.
It's only 10 years since the present owners bought the outstanding equity in the ground from the council. They then wisely concentrated on improving the team, the practice facilities, the pitch, etc.

I would agree with you if we were to embark on a brand new stand like the one put up at Anfield. We're talking about 1800 seats in a poxy corner ffs.

Although the club is prudently run financially, and that's a good thing, our other off field commercial activity is very definitely lagging behind most clubs in the prem. It's about generating more income and marketing the club to ultimately attract a bigger fan base. I see diddly squat happening and the long delay to decide to add some seats merely underlines my point.

Even though 1800 seats is not a massive change I feel there will be a massive improvement in the matchday conditions and the atmosphere.
With only 1 open corner it will stop the biting wind through the winter. I hate going to games in December and freezing my tits off wearing a scarf hat and gloves.
Plus with the ground being more enclosed it will keep the atmosphere in much better and make the singing seem louder.
Hopefully we will have more of a beerpit sound from next season again.
But will they improve ground access by cars and other transport? A park and ride scheme may be the answer

I would love them to be able to time this with a decision to allow " safe standing" could improve the atmosphere quite a bit

In a dream world we would knock down the boothen end and rebuild it to the same height as the main stand, fill the corner in and make the concourse bigger and maybe have an upper concourse as well. Then build a big bottle kiln in the score board corner with new screen and some disabled viewing facilities. Ando And finally put in a wider door for the bogs in block 24.

Absolutely disgraceful decision and another kick in the teeth for those loyal fans that turn up every other week and stand on the grass bank in all weathers, lifeblood of the club once again being ignored, with this so called improvement all these hardy souls can do now is simply stand there and listen....

Nice we're having 2 new score boards now. One hanging from the roof of the new corner and one opposite.

Didn't they put a planning application in and it was turned down because the council wouldn't let them put advertising on. Do we really need a few grand's worth of advertising a season that much?

Things that need doing:
Fill the corner in.
Another tier on the DPD.
Boothen End increase in size as a single tier stand.
Fill the opposite corner in, either seats or WBA style wind breaks.
FAN ZONE!
