To try and shed some light on this issue: The commentators on Radio Stoke said Sobhi was "blowing hard" and presumably had given his all. This is the first time he has played 90 mins this season wasn't it? If he flogged himself Wednesday night, he may well be very stiff and it could be a risk inflicting muscle damage if he goes out and tries too hard too soon. So I think the club physios etc. know what they are doing if it was decided to give him a decent recovery time before his next run out. More than likely this in hindsight. Who would you listen to more- the Stoke physios or the Oatcake vegetables? Answers on a postcard please.....

If that is the case for a professional football that would be a concern at such a young age. Esp when he was MoM on Wednesday!

Well at that time, the Bayern conspiracy theory hadn't surfaced. So you asked where he was. The answer was given (failed a late fitness test). Thread locked.

Maybe. But there's no way Hughes was going to start him anyway with those comments he made. Which is just rank bad management in itself. If he had played yesterday I think we would have won pretty easily. But he's too young and inexperienced for the manager. That's Hughes biggest problem, well one of many, not a sniff for Sobhi, Walters shoe horned was disgraceful, as said conveniently injured.

I've also heard that Ireland didn't suffer an injury in training. It was he slipped at home cleaning out his 20ft fish tank. Oh and Afellay. He's not really injured. Rumour has it this big bright light was seen over Clayton wood and he was beamed up and hasn't been seen since. Now I don't know whether Hughes got in touch with this UFO and planned it in advance but if he did I agree we should get him out and get Steve Bruce in. Haha. Believe what you want but this came from within the camp re Bardsley. Now the Sobhi thing is me speculating but they've done it before.... Yes a saw it mentioned on the housewives of Cheshire programme

I sat behind one of them at a reserve game once. Bardleys Mrs is one of them I know, it wasn't her. Gorre's wife, it was against Swansea. I would've said hello but I couldn't be arsed (and she looked like a rayt twat).

Back to the OP, I was listening to radio Stoke right up to 10 minutes before the kick off and then again as soon as I left the ground and no one mentioned that Sobhi had failed a late fitness test, best player on the pitch midweek. Very strange if you ask me. Gouranga.

Mark Hughes was a bit put out that he played so well on Wednesday so he bombed him out of the squad. He doesn't like players in form.
Apparently...

MH is walking on thin ice yet some of you believe that he'll send the lad home for no apparent reason.

Remember the days when Pulis was slated for not giving young players a chance? *WinkyFace*
At the end of the day football managers, who have a short shelf life anyway, aren't going to gamble their career (especially when the team is totally out of form) on young players.
I'm not saying that's right, but that's the way it is!

Your serious aren't you? Wow! He failed a fitness test, thats it,no conspiracy. If he had been fit he would have been on the bench at least. Whatever Hughes faults creating fake fitness tests aren't one of them. Yes. It deflects from what would have been a stupid decision. His comments weren't very encouraging at all and he was always going to drop and then there would have been a backlash. He's very risk averse. And like I've said they've already done it with Bardo (or so I've been led to believe) why wouldn't they do it again? So, where was the risk (in Hughes's mind) in having Sobhi on the bench?

So, where was the risk (in Hughes's mind) in having Sobhi on the bench? Having an inexperienced 19 year old on the bench instead of Crouch...... Like I said on Team thread on Saturday, If he was injured why wasn't Verlinden named on subs bench. Going into a game with no recognisable replacement for the wings is very poor management. I'm with Bayern on this, it's not like they haven't pulled the injury/sickness ploy before, Bardsley and Wolly in very recent weeks.
