"Let's nip this story in the bud. Unfortunately we are fair game for some areas of work, who feel they can get easy headlines. It is very predictable, and it all comes up at these times and these situations. To question players is totally untrue. Wilfried has come in and made a real positive impact behind the scenes. He hasn't had too many games in the past year and he is still getting up to speed. To say we are questioning his attitude is totally wrong. Some of the guys are struggling for a bit of form. Giannelli played in the week and did fine. He is a clear talent, but if his form, like anybody else, isn't where it should be then he will come out of the team. It is frustrating to read these stories, because we have a great group and a very strong dressing room. We played well midweek but lost the game. We didn't get the breaks on the night, but there were positives we can take from it, for sure."
MH on Wednesday's game... We are in one of those situations. If you look at all clubs in the Premier League, the vast majority will go through these periods, but because it has happened here early on people may think we will struggle this year - we don't think that. There are other clubs around us who have started similarly, but we feel as the season progresses we will be in a position that we feel is befitting to us, which is the top 10. There is a bit of noise behind us because we haven't won, but if we win tomorrow then we will have made a better start than we did last year, and we went on to finish ninth. We put pressure on ourselves, and we are disappointed because we wanted to make a better start. We will get positive results very quickly."
MH on his side's defensive frailties... We don't want to hide behind anything. We have played good sides at home and we have had to chase games, and as a consequence of that we have been caught on the break. We were disappointed at Crystal Palace because we gave ourselves no chance by conceding twice so early. There are reasons why we are conceding and we need to address it, which we will do. We are open to criticism which has been brought on by ourselves. We haven't fundamentally changed the group, which finished in the top 10 last season. We have the talent to come through this period."
MH on his future... It is to be expected when things aren't going well. We are always looking forward to try and improve and we wanted to start brightly. I think i have proved in my time here that i can take this Club in the right direction, which is the top half of the Premier League, which is what I set off to do when I arrived here. Maybe next year we never hit the bottom spot, we didn't get the focus, but because we are sat there now we are getting the headlines. If you come back in a few months time and we are having the same conversation then it would be a different situation, but I don't think it will be."
MH on Tony Pulis... He is just a manager like we all are, and will be hoping his team can come here and beat a very good team. Whether there is a special resonance to him, maybe you would have to ask him that. I think he will be approaching it like any other match."
MH on last season's fixture... The referee on the day misread one of the sending's off, and Charlie's was debatable too. It wasn't a case of West Brom being at fault, so there will be no left overs from that game. We have dusted ourselves down and we want to get things back on track. We saw on Wednesday how desperate the lads are to get things back on track. We haven't had that 90 minute performance yet, and there have been factors to that - injuries and form being just two. You have these issues at the start of the season and some times you need to give the guys time. I was encouraged by what we produced on Wednesday but we aren't far away."
MH on his injury situation... Xherdan trained again yesterday and we will check on him today. He has had a soft tissue muscle injury, but if he feels confident and we feel that he won't be compromised by it then we will go with him. Apart from that we have a pretty much clean bill of health."
MH on Ramadan's debut... We were pleased with his performance - he is an obvious talent and comes with a huge reputation in his own country. He is still going to have times where he will have to take a step back, watch and learn from the Premier League. He enjoyed it the other night and I believe the fans enjoyed watching him too. He is a positive player and I like that in my creative guys. He is improving week in, week out and he is going to have a big impact here. We will enjoy him over the next few years."
MH on Salomon Rondon's dangers this weekend... He is a good player. He has good pace and good energy. At times he has a thankless task because of the way West Brom set-up, but given his attributes he can still affect games. They set up to be solid with lots of players behind the ball, and he suffers from that because he, at times, has little support. I have been impressed by him since he arrived in the country."
MH on Jon Walters... He missed Wednesday because of an issue with his ankle. He got through the session yesterday, even though we had to strap him up. He is a doubt for tomorrow. Bojan was just given a rest on Wednesday and is back in contention tomorrow."

Frustrating though this spell is I still love how positive he is.
I'm convinced we'll win tomorrow providing given remains on the bench

Danny Higginbotham discussing the weekend game now on Sky
The gist of his comments (my interpretation)
His opinion is that we should "return to basics" when it comes to defending
Some of the flair players will have little or no experience of being in a relegation / lower end of the table' situation
They need to break this downward trend and get some points on the board.
Obvious comments in may ways, but the bit about some players lack of experience of this type of battle a very valid point

Good talking , MH was a tough player physically and mentally , just hope he can install some of that attitude into his squad , they need a big performance tomorrow whatever the result , any sign of a lack of commitment will be seized on by the crowd

I like that he's really positive and isn't panicking when it's so easy to panic in the situation we're currently in
No Walters is music to everyone's ears.
Interesting nothing mentioned about Glenn Whelan
I really think the same team should start tomorrow as they did on Wednesday. Shaq to come on with Bojan if needed.
Geoff didn't have the greatest game but he deserves a chance in that role. Hopefully he grabs it and Whelan won't be the first name on the team sheet !

No problems then. There are a lot of positives to be taken from our situation. Referees need to play their part too. Overall I'm pleased with the way the players are performing. West Brom are a real threat. Let's see what we can do. We must'nt get complacent. We are in one of those situations. Let's not get complacent. I can hardly see complacency being a problem tomorrow We haven't exactly been setting the world alight lately have we !!

I like what he's said and I'm confident we'll beat West Brom tomorrow because I was encouraged to see that the players are still behind him based on Wednesday's performance. I think he made a fair point in that if we win tomorrow we'll be better off points wise than we were after this many games last season.

Apart from Shaq in pretty good shape? Affellay, Butland?? they both have ages to go before they come back though. can't expect an update on them everytime he speaks and when he says clean bill of health for everyone else, he's obviously talking about the players that are in contention for team selection

Why don't they sort some proper mic's etc at these press conferences>

Usually accompanied by a sigh. It's sad. there have been times when Sparky has looked terribly uncomfortable in the press conf. Awkward breathing etc/ None of that now, seems to be positively relishing the challenge.
