By all accounts a much better performance, 2 goals in 2 games for Arnie, a settled back four and a run out for our new winger. All positives.
Only negative is that we lost, well that means no extra games or distractions and the sole focus being the league and getting ourselves out of the shit.
I usually hate Stoke losing but on this occasion I'm glad as I can see the positives in it, especially if you consider whoever our manager is next week is in for a long hard slog of a season.

Yes a positive for more concentration on the league, some teams have won the cup and gone down, maybe they wouldn't have if gone out the cup sooner. We need more focus on the league this year, because of the injuries etc etc, we haven't got a squad that can cope.
Last thing we need going into the shithousery of a Pulis fixture, remember how being fired up served us so well against them last season?
That's a good point but we played better in that game with 9 men than we've done with 11 during most games this year

To be honest, the start we've had to the season we could do without the distraction of cup matches, we need to concentrate entirely on the league......then if results pick up, and we end up hauling ourselves up the table by the new year, we can have a crack at the FA Cup instead, but for the meantime, we definitely need to be focused on the league alone!!!

That's the point I was making and coupled with the other positives out of the game I don't think losing was as bad a result as it could have been. I probably should have waited till the morning though as I was a little naughty with the thread title.

You don't think morale would have been lifted if the decent performance had been rewarded with a win? I don't think it's a bad thing that we won't have the distraction of additional cup games in our current predicament, but glad we lost? Get a grip, youth.

Is there really any need to abuse the poster when surely anyone can reasonably appreciate his sentiments without abuse ? It's just childish isn't it I don't agree with the opening post but, those are the kind of replies you get nowadays on here

I'm not glad we lost, but it will help us to cocentrate on the League. Jesus Christ we have people predicting relegation on hwre thw last thing we need at the moment are more distractions and more potential injuries.
So yeah it's a shame but we have bigger things to be dealing with.

I've already hinted it higher up but to spell it out for some people.
I was using the title as click bait my point is that there were lots of positives from last night..including the loss it self from a certain point of view (losing this one game will not impact our season, winning it could - in what way we don't know) I get the moral thing some have mentioned but you could argue that a win (against Hull B) would lead to a false sense of security going into a must win game (at least for Hughes). But that's just different points of view.

Dunna worry....I know what you were trying to get at, there's just some over sensitive dicks on here!!! It's true, the start we've had we don't need the distraction of the cup....we need to take heart in the way we PLAYED last night, not the result....take that into Saturdays game, along with better defending for the entire 90 minutes!!! Then, if results start to pick up and we look better, then maybe have a fair crack at the FA Cup instead!!!

I went home happy which was a strange feeling as we lost
Considering the shit we've served up so far this season. Last night was a massive improvement. We dominated the game and Hull literally had 3 chances the entire game. One was a worldy of a goal and the other was Charlie Adam fucking around which led to the winner.
Overall. Impressed with the line up he choose. It worked to an extent and on another day I'm convinced we'd have scored 4 or more
Surely. Surely he has to go with the same line up Saturday. Shaq on the bench as well as Bojan.
I wouldn't personally bring Whelan back but Hughes probably will for Cameron

A cup run can bring back the confidence we desperately need. Last night irrespective of the performance albeit v Hull Reserves losing will have taken our fragile confidence down a notch. The cups are just a handful of games and in the early rounds keeps fringe players match fit and sometimes helps players find form away from the intensity of the Prem. Sobhi for example will be better off for that run out. I am gutted we are out, it seem the cups would have been the only enjoyment from what is shaping up to be a depressing season.

We're lucky if we play four games a month other than over the Christmas period, an extra league cup game every few weeks is hardly going to push the players the breaking point is it? Our best form last season coincided with our cup run.

Anyone who is 'glad we lost' can FOUTV. Go on, do it now.
I am never glad we lost. A win last night could have kickstarted our season, instead we are even more in the doldrums than before.

With all due respect, I totally disagree. A cup run would be a massive boost in morale and confidence. And if we win the whole damn thing we actually win a major trophy, which is surely better than a ninth placed finish? This particular Cup isn't even any sort of huge distraction; after this round there are five more matches and it's all wrapped up by the end of February. Losing last night makes me think that Saturday is now even more important than it already was.

Looking at the next round draw Manure v Manc Liverpool v Spurs Wham v Chelsea
This competition could be wide open for an average team to have a decent run. Just a shame that we are not even average at the moment.
