He'd probably play Cameron there you'd think.
But to flip the question round ... what would Hughes have done if Imbula hadn't been available on Saturday?
I'd bet my mortgage that he would have played 4-2-3-1 with Bojan in the hole, absolutely guaranteed.
Do you not think that he might be tempted, rightly or wrongly, to play Allen a bit deeper and try something different with the other two midfield spots? I agree, he definitely would have played 4-2-3-1, and I think we'd have been better for it.
I think he (correctly) knows that if he played Allen in the Whelan role and went with Imbula and Bojan as the other two, then we'd be even more overrun than we are now.
He knows (again correctly) that he needs at least two players in there, who are prepared to put in a tackle.
Ultimately he's painted himself into a corner, one which means that he has to choose either Bojan and go with his preferred formation, or fudge things and go with Imbula.

Yep, he's definitely painted himself into a corner. How can he go to the men upstairs and justify not playing one part of his £31,000,000 duo, while also explaining that he still needs to spend big on three defenders and a winger? I suppose that this is the problem when you collect central midfielders at great cost. At least when TP stockpiled centre backs, he could just stick them out in the full back positions!

The last thing we need right now is new experimental changes like throwing Cameron in to the midfield mix, Hughes knows that we had a formation that worked, we should be doing everything we can to get back to that point
Changes to tactics due to players not being available are what caused this imo, the last thing we need now is voluntary changes to the midfield, we need a fired up Whelan alongside Allen's engine and they need to get to know where the other is and will be, that's probably one of the issues with Imbula, imagine an angry Irishman screaming at you not knowing wtf he's saying most the time
I genuinely believe that things will come good, but mainly only if we play Bojan in the hole in a familiar formation

He really tried to track back for one of the goals in the second half where he ran the best he could, but too many options for the Spurs players let him down. At least this shows he is willing to do the job if coached properly! Also think he needs a formation and a role that suits him, or he needs to be told what his job actually is. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

You can't turn back time and his chronic lack of mobility is now costing us. Case in point, Spurs 3rd goal - Ali starts in the Spurs box, GW starts on the half way line, who gets into the Stoke box first and scores. He can no longer protect the back 4 as he gets out of position and can't recover.
