It's much, much more than just the absence of Butland.
All over the pitch we look far too pedestrian. We rarely manage to manoeuvre the ball in ways that create space, and on the odd occasion that we do, we generally fuck it up with either a poor first touch or a bad decision. We look disjointed and bereft of ideas offensively and defensively we are lacking any sort of solidity.
Yes, we have had a tough run of fixtures and yes, some dubious refereeing decisions have gone against us, but in previous seasons, with arguably "lesser" players on the pitch, we have always given a good account of ourselves, whoever we have played.
There is something deeply troubling going on that just might (although I still very much doubt it) lead to the kind of downward spiral that relegates teams that, on paper, should be nowhere near the bottom 3.
We desperately need to be able to field a full strength team, over a healthy run of fixtures, to turn this mess around.
I fucking love you Stoke, but far too often of late you have managed to turn the high of pre-game anticipation into brutal and hideous disappointment.
I need the high of a win and a good performance, and I need it fucking soon!

I think we'll be fine but losing can turn into a habit and things need to change. We have a decent squad but have had rotten look with injuries. For me though the biggest issue is tactics and team selection. Today we went in with a negative team selection rather than going for it and we got we deserved. For me Adam offers us more defensively than Imbula and way more going forward than Whelan so should start in a midfield 2 with Allen. Then play Arni, Bojan and Shaq behind Bony who needs games.

there just doesn't seem any passion in the players at the moment ,there are to many individuals and we aren't playing as a unit .wether it's the tactics hughes is playing or just that the players are not up for it, something wants sorting sooner rather than later.

You seem very confident we are going to start defending as a team AND attacking with real pace :-) That would be brilliant ! Hope you are right

Too soon for this daft talk. The defence is getting a lot of stick, but offensively we don't press home when we are playing well , which we did in the first half. Arnie was crap again today, and I'm sorry but Walters has had his day. We have not addressed the wide positions at all, the balls into the box from the wing and from the full backs have been dire. Thought the two new men had decent games, and Imbula wasn't the worst player on the pitch despite what the boo boys think.

I said after 4 games we would be bottom. But we're playing worse than I ever thought. Bottom five this season, I just hope we have enough to avoid bottom 3.

Agree ... any good young player should come on at 2-0 down if you can't trust a lad at 2-0 down when can you trust him ?

We won't go down, but Hughes needs to sort them out fast before the pressure builds up on him. Give Sobhi a chance.

I like the confidence on here but some of the posts ring true to me.
It's that rut you get into when you are at the bottom that we have to be fearful of. It happened to Villa last year and we all laughed but it is so easy to go the same way. I know Villa had more problems on and off the pitch but it is the sort of spiral you go into when things don't click.
For me, the team just doesn't gel. The fight and passion that has always kept us alive and competitive in this division has gone now. I don't think the players know what to do anymore and you simply can't ignore Mark Wilson's parting shot around defending. Our defending could relegate us this season shocking as that sounds. Shay let's in far too many goals and heads drop too easily, we clearly aren't doing enough work around defending in my view and its scary because I see us conceding a lot of goals with the current set up.
We have a clutch of star quality players scattered around the pitch each with their own ego and that is also a worry. Arnie is half the player he was this time last year and his master plan of having a good Euro's followed by his big move hasn't materialised and he looks demoralised to me. Bony showed one or two good touches but rarely looked like scoring as did the whole team, and in my view Bojan is just too intelligent and see's things others don't which is why he rarely links up.
Sorry I know its negative, but something has to change even at this early stage.
The writing is on the wall. I dearly hope I'm wrong though, I really do.

Manager has lost it. If we don't sack him we are in for a rough season. I never though I would say that but it's true, we will be playing championship football next season.

Far too early to say but there should be a fairly clear picture in about 5 games time. There are a lot of things that need to improve fairly quickly now - we have had months to address our failings so it's time to stop bleating about ref's, injuries and whatever and just get it sorted.

We will not go down because Uncle Peter will sack LMH some time this month.
If all else fails we know TP will be delighted to return and will stop us being relegated.

For me by far the worst area is both fullbacks. Fullbacks in the modern game need to be speed merchants, we do not have a single fullback who is fast enough. This should have been addressed over the summer.
