For those who want a destroyer, that is clearly not what Hughes wants in players these days. He wants players who are comfortable on the ball, who can pass and move, retain possession (ball shirkulashun, as Bossie said!) and feed the attacking midfielders. The days of Mick Kennedy and Stigger Foley are long gone. Allen will fit in well with the style of play Hughes is orchestrating. He can cover ground and win the ball as well, he just isn't going to take someone's leg off at the knee in the process! He must have a lot of confidence in our 'watertight defence' then !

Hopefully if Imbula can improve the defensive side of his game they can work well together, also whelen himself wasn't originally a defensive midfielder.. regardless I'll support Hughes in his decisions he's never led us astray thus far and he does cover ground and retain possession which could compliment Imbula.

I like the way stoke do business. Mark hughes is always trying to push them forward. A journo on talk sport just. Big things ahead folks. We are gonna be spending some big cash in the next few weeks surely. The benefit of these years fighting again at the top level. Good times

Percy also says we agreed a fee of £7m for Ki at Swansea earlier in the window but scrapped it after they raised their asking price Good, tell them to shove it, Ki is awful and wouldn't fit in at Stoke whatsoever

He's been largely crap for Liverpool in my opinion but sometimes big clubs can do that to good players. If he plays like he does for Wales every week then he'll do for me.

The Ki snippet is quite key here considering Swansea are our competition for Allen; It's a bit of a check mate move from us. We are in pole position to get their target and if they really want him it leaves Ki as surplus to requirements and would put them in a poor position to negotiate a higher price than the 7m
On a seperate note, 13m for Allen as he's in the last year of his contract. Yet again it highlights how we were robbed with 7m for NZonzi...

Agree about Imbula - Allen and Imbula could be a great combo, but Imbula has to pull his weight defensively. He is a good athlete and physically strong, so he needs to be prepared to put his foot in a bit more this season. Hopefully we are drilling that into him in pre-season.

Think we need a better balanced squad than we had last season. .

Allen's tougher than people are making out, as nutterpotter's stat from earlier in the thread suggests. He's got bags of energy as well.

Agree on the balanced squad, but also agree that Allen in a nuggety little fella who will cover the ground and win the ball. He is no show pony.

"hoping to get it done in the next 48 hours".. they obviously don't know how Tony Scholes works. 48 hours Jupiter-time. Then they have to overcome the obstacle of Hughes just staring at his shoes and muttering when he's supposed to be selling the club to him.
