Don't mean to be a party pooper but is he really what we need? A defensive midfield destroyer with a physical presence is what I would like. As Tidy as Joe Allan is he doesn't fit that bill for me.... We've got Adam, Ireland, Affelay who offer a similar role. Tin hat on. Where's he going to play? He plays in a more of an Imbula type position than a Whelan one, although I suppose he could play defensive mid. A midfield three of Allen, Imbula and Bojan would seem extremely lightweight though. I don't think Allen is lightweight Paul. For Liverpool last season and for Wales in the Euros he put himself about quite a lot. I think he can play both midfield roles.

Sky Sports still referring to it as the Brit. Good lads.
ALLEN FEE AGREED
We understand talks are ongoing between Stoke and Liverpool with a £13 million fee agreed to take Joe Allen to the Britannia.

www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/07/20/stoke-city-target-liverpool-midfielder-joe-allen-with-13-million/Stoke City have made a £13million bid for Liverpool's Wales international Joe Allen and hope to conclude a deal in the next 48 hours.
Mark Hughes, the Stoke manager, wants to make Allen his first signing of the summer and made his move on Wednesday in a bid to rush through a deal.
Allen has also been targeted by former club Swansea City and Sevilla but Stoke are now the front-runners to sign the midfielder after agreeing a fee with Liverpool.

I think Hughes will have a massive pull in this one. He's been around the Welsh camp all summer through his media coverage. Bet he's been in Joe's ear. Genuinely excited about this one. Very cunning from Hughes and the team.Lets go over to support Wales and have a stealthy chat with the Welsh Xavi. What with the Alpine Messi, things are looking UP!

Saying that, impressive at the euros, and he's home grown.
I wanted a Roy Keane type destroyer.

Percy also says we agreed a fee of £7m for Ki at Swansea earlier in the window but scrapped it after they raised their asking price

That's news to me about an offer for Ki from Swansea! I would prefer Allen, who is more of a holder, which is what we badly need as competition for Whelan.

Allen, Berahino, solid CB - I'd be beyond thrilled Plus Sobhi, Arnie resigns. Agree. Evolution not revolution. Would be a good window

He pressed the hell out of us.

I feel the same I'm neutral on him.. he's not a bad player and seems to have improved more recently and was good in the Euro's no doubt...but is he what we need?.. I'm not sure. Time will tell but I also wanted a beast of a holding player.

But Hughes gets paid to make these decisions. So I'll trust him.

For those who want a destroyer, that is clearly not what Hughes wants in players these days. He wants players who are comfortable on the ball, who can pass and move, retain possession (ball shirkulashun, as Bossie said!) and feed the attacking midfielders. The days of Mick Kennedy and Stigger Foley are long gone.
Allen will fit in well with the style of play Hughes is orchestrating. He can cover ground and win the ball as well, he just isn't going to take someone's leg off at the knee in the process!

I really like Allen and think he'd be a cracking signing the only thing that worries me slightly is that we would be a very small side potentially especially if Arnie leaves.
Bit of height at the back but then we have
Shaq Bojan Allen Potentially Berahino
That's 4 players 5'10 or below
We'd certainly have to work on our set pieces.
