Those saying he's too old remind me of a lot of people (myself included) saying the same about Defoe
Quickly changed my mind of course!

It's the question you ask in a pub when a bird walks in who has been around the block a few times, so in answer, if we're desperate, yes Define desperate!!! In woman terms? the one that walks in with hair that has been bleached & coloured more times than washed, orange skin, gold earings and upside down nike ticks for eyebrows drawn on to look unatural, red lipstick and a look like del boy would say would make you feel like a turkey who has just seen bernard matthews grinning at him. In footballing terms I'd prefer a chance on a fresher piece of flesh

Whats the problem with his age?? Hes two years younger than Zlatan Ibrahomovic Anyone would think we had an embarrassment of riches up front - its a no brainer IF financially right for both parties He won't come here anyway mate - it's just some people's attitudes? I think he got something like 30 in his first season for Utd, 20 in his second And then 10 in his 3rd due to injuries and stuff. (Which still isn't far off what the likes of Crouch, Walters, Joselu and Diouff are getting for us?) Shaqiri got 3 for fuck's sake? He may well be past it - but let's not get to the stage where we're putting down The idea of a player of his standing coming to Stoke?

There are other considerations, would he fit into how we play, can he stay fit, could we get someone younger who's a better long term option, given half of the strikers at the club are already his age or over? The spectre of Michael Owen rears his head.

Would like to see him here but where would it leave Crouch, Joselu, Diouf and Walters if RvP and Saido sign? At least two would have to go.

If he's not our main striker signing and others are leaving great, would be dissapointed if he was our main striker signing though at 33

Do we think this is as well as Berahino or instead? Got to be as well. At 33 though I'd give it a miss. I thought he was about 31.

Do we think this is as well as Berahino or instead? I think MH and Co are covering their options. They must be pretty cheesed off with WBA now and need to add at least 1 striker to replace Wingie. If they do nothing they could be left without signing anyone* significant and joining the mad scrabble in the last 48 hours. That may not be such a bad thing this window, I suspect the top clubs will be looking to shed quite a few quality players in the last week of the window, when their shopping is complete. MH and Co. may of course be simply trying to pressurize WBA to strike a deal. I don't think RvP will be interested in joining anyone who is not in the Champions league, and will expect to be on top wages of those clubs. *It is still possible Berahino may not move.

It's an odd game to play if that's the case. If we want both it makes sense as different options a la Diouf and Joselu. If we're looking at them both as potential first choice options though, they're so different that you have to wonder what the plan is. Like when Tone suddenly veered from Demba Ba to Carew/Crouch.

I'd take him so long as he's not the main summer striker signing, ideally we need someone who is mobile and pacy upfront week in week out. Van Persie would be a fantastic option off the bench if we're looking for a goal.

Aside from any concerns about his abilities, age and wages - I'd worry about how committed he'd be to the cause at Stoke.
Van Persie just seems to have too much bad history with Stoke. I can't see him relishing the move in any way, shape or form. You don't achieve what he has in the game without a good attitude I guess, but I'd feel uneasy about his motivation if he ended up with us. £££.

It would just be another Michael Owen/Eidur Gudjonnsen situation................... Van Persie is clearly fitter and in better shape than both Owen and Eidur, but nonetheless I agree with regards to his dedication. Shed loads of money to get him here, fuck all of the desire and willpower that is required.

It would just be another Michael Owen/Eidur Gudjonnsen situation................... Gudjohnsen and Owen was Pulis players. Gudjohnsen and owen was shit long before we signed them. Van persie is still on fire. Hughes allways sits down with the player and talk with them before he decide to sign them up.
