All Hughes needed today was a cap on

Up until the penalty Cameron was my MOM, however to concede a penalty in that way was completely brainless. last minute of the game and the striker had his back to goal and going nowhere before Cameron clatters through the back of him. Totally and utterly brain dead from Geoff. Which is why he is a stand in CB, not really good enough but better than the bloke he stood in for by a country mile.

It looks like Hughes has realised, at last, that he is not the answer, and I hope some German club will feel sorry for him and give us a few grand to put towards a proper defender in the Huth tradition (but younger). Like a proper defender you mean Yes and one who does not wear gloves (even on the effing bench).

You are funny European push , have you seen our defence lately ! better today though has to be said. We've got some good footballers. The right acquisitions and luck with injuries could see us push on again NEXT season. Stoke fans wallow in negativity - I don't get it. Hope you are right what concerns me is that Hughes has invested £40 million on transfer fees alone and we have gone backwards, does not bode well for the future.

Crouch gave a focus that helped but the opposition were dire and I would say it was a long long way from being a 'huge' improvement. Yes but at this stage it's really more about results than performances. We're low on confidence right now & what we needed was to stop the humiliating losing streak which we did. We were very poor in our first 2 wins at the beginning of the season against Bournemouth at home & Villa away but the next thing you know, we're averaging 2 points a game for the next 3 months in an emphatic surge up the table annihilating teams like Man City & Man united on the way. We all know on our day we can outplay any opposition in the league but what we needed was a little bit of momentum to raise the confidence of the players which is what 2 scrappy wins gave us. Hopefully we'll take the positives from today & end the season with 2 good performances against Palace & West Ham.

Big improvements, albeit against a weak side. And yet we still haven't won a match without wollscheid...

Today was an improvement but not a massive one. Sunderland are in the relegation zone wiith a couple of games to go for one reason - they're no good.
I think all talk of signing Cattermole will be over. Whelan and Charlie played well together. Arnie was fine. Cameron had a good game until his 94th minute aberration.
Hopefully Shaqiri and Imbula will look at the cameo by Walters and realise what "putting a shift in" translates to in their respective languages.
I'm amazed that we constantly talk of superior continental technique but £18 million doesn't buy a player who would contemplate using his weaker foot when through on goal. Imbula worries me. He can surge past players but doesn't know when to release the ball. He's not a great tackler and for a big un he's not competitive in the air.
Shaqiri - I just don't get him.

I think people are making too much of a defensive performance against an attack that barely existed - we even tried to make trouble for ourselves by taking the pratting about at the back to another level at times. The midfield showed itself to be poor in terms of giving us any goal threat whatsoever. One of the wingers is currently the most frustrating player in the history of the game. And all in all we did what everyone expected as soon as we went one up - we blew it. Sorry I know it's all very negative but that Sunderland teamwas grim and not to be able to muster sufficient quality to take all the points tells me only bad things. ....I'll be better after a couple of pints tonight!!
