Defence looked very good. Cameron was absolutely superb today & had Defoe in his pocket for 90 mins. The penalty at the end was a shame & Defoe sure made a meal out of it but that shouldn't take away from the shift he put in for us today. Pieters did what Muniesa failed to do in the last 3 weeks & that is to defend. Haggard was untested for the entire 90 mins.
Arnie was great again but the real difference today was bringing back good' ol Charlie, who dominated the centre of midfield today. He played very direct, always looked to play the ball forward & really bolstered the midfield. We were lacking leaders on the pitch & Adam was the player who really stepped up & took responsibility. But he did look absolutely knackered after the 75th min & probably should've been taken off a bit earlier. But his performance is a huge positive for us.
Crouch was very decent again & so was Walters' short cameo from the bench. Imbula was anonymous in the first half but very decent in the second. The only disappointment is that we couldn't finish them off with a second goal. We certainly had our chances but in the context of our last 3 results, this was a very decent performance from the guys.
Palace away next. They'll be focussed on the FA cup final so hopefully we can get a win there.
Against a team that's supposedly "fighting for their life" at the bottom of the table, we certainly did match them for desire & strength. "Already on the beach" they say? Cleary they don't know what they're talking about.

The best thing was getting the ball forward quickly , a solid step in the right direction but lots more work to do , the penalty should have been no more than a consolation goal if we were more clinical

Correct, albeit against a very average side. They just drew against Arsenal last week & kept a clean sheet. They don't have shiny individuals but they play like a team & they're fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.

Massive improvements today. From the first 5 minutes you could tell we wanted it. Whelan flew into cattermole and that set us up. We deserved more than we got. Crouch imo man of match. Closely followed by Adam and arnie. No arguments from me on there pen. As clear as they come. Let's hope we take today's positives into the next 2 games and finish the season on a high

It's easy to say they are a poor side etc but today we pressed them and made them look poor. Credit to stoke today for pulling out a performance that deserved a win

People saying they were a good team and "worst teams have been here this season" they must have been pissed. They were the usual big Sam hoof shite with no gut, they were terrible.

Hard to judge Sunderland were crap, we will see how we are against West Ham, who are a good side.

Geoff played well today. His athleticism is a huge plus but we moved the ball quicker.

Very true, but on today's evidence... No but as Clyde says you can't just say they were poor today. They were poor because we made them look poor. We pressed their midfield players high up the pitch, we didn't give Kirchhoff & Cattermole any room to operate & we forced them to make to make mistakes & just cluelessly lump the ball up the pitch.

Crouch gave a focus that helped but the opposition were dire and I would say it was a long long way from being a 'huge' improvement.

And that's why we can't rely on Cameron at centre half.
He did play really well and then he did that. We have too many who do the same thing.

Sunderland were very poor, typical Allardyce team. Cynical hoof merchants.
Stoke were marginally better. I thought we were poor.
We are DESPERATE for a centre-forward.

Poor side or not they signed the Striker I wanted for us...you remember the one you lot thought was finished and too old....that's 14 ..yes 14 goals he's scored for them now just about double anything our lot have managed.
Quality is always better than youth and Defoe is quality. Just imagine where his 14 goals would have put us this season and lol lol lol big Sam didn't want to play him at first.

It looks like Hughes has realised, at last, that he is not the answer, and I hope some German club will feel sorry for him and give us a few grand to put towards a proper defender in the Huth tradition (but younger).

Up until the penalty Cameron was my MOM, however to concede a penalty in that way was completely brainless. last minute of the game and the striker had his back to goal and going nowhere before Cameron clatters through the back of him. Totally and utterly brain dead from Geoff.

No, none of them good enough for a European push. You are funny European push , have you seen our defence lately ! better today though has to be said. We've got some good footballers. The right acquisitions and luck with injuries could see us push on again NEXT season. Stoke fans wallow in negativity - I don't get it.
