if you really think this was going to be any other outcome you are blinkered- politically it was bound to end up with this decision after all the publicity- who knows where the truth lies but certainly dont accept everything from this inquest - What planet are you on

i think werrington made it quite clear that it is indeed a discussion but this thread simply isn't the place for it. just for one thread can we not just show a little respect for the victims and the outcome of THIS inquest???? feel free to have a discussion as to why the police behaved the way they did at matches and the rights and wrongs of it and who was culpable for that kind of blanket behaviour over all fans, but do it on another thread eh? this is about the Hillsborough inquest (as the thread title quite clearly states). who was to blame for the Police's behaviour at football matches in general wasn't covered within the inquest so that discussion has no place on this thread. simple It's not just the police though is it? will they take the guy that designed the pens to court or the builders that put them there? why were they there in the first place? There is a big clue in this. Police still attend games and we no longer have pens. If you don't think that's important or anyone else for that matter then that's up to them. the CPS is now looking into the full findings to establish if criminal proceedings are necessary. let's leave that to them to decide eh? in fact if you look back at Paul Spencer's post, the CPS spokesperson actually specifically asked for people to basically watch what they say whilst they look into it. can we not just have 1 thread where people congratualte those who have worked so hard to get to this point, to respect those that died that day and let the justice system take it's course now it's finally been proved the deaths were unlawful? now that decision has been made there is no longer any hiding place, no way of just brushing it under the carpet anymore and no way of hoping people just forget about it. now certainly isn't the time to try to point score with other posters over the rights and wrongs of fans behaviour or police behaviour in general at the time. this inquest looked specifically at the police behaviour and fan behaviour on this particular day and found the fans weren't to blame. repercussions will follow so let's just wait and see what happens eh? there have been many Hillsborough threads over the years with many speculating, accusing, alledging and throwing around conspiracy theories. we now have FACTS, let's thank those involved for getting us here and wait to see what prosecutions follow based on FACTS not on what some on here think, remember, guess at.

I for one have in the past wrongly been outspoken, and last time this was discussed i apologised unequivocally for any offence that I caused. And I am quite sure that everyone is now thrilled with the outcome and that justice has finally been served. And I must say how impressed I was with the dignity of the families before, during and after the inquest.

Just a shame that bitch Thatcher is not around to see all this May she rot in hell Galls me mate, that Dukinfield retired on a massive police pension paid for by the tax payers he let down massively. He should be stripped of his pension in my opinion.

Also bear in mind that they continued their attempted cover up at this inquest. I'm assuming that Duckinfield will be tried and convicted but the interesting thing will be how far and wide they will be able to mount prosecutions and get convictions for the cover up. One hopes that there will be many former senior police officers who will not sleep soundly in the their beds - but will any politicians be dragged into the criminal justice system? A past Prime Minister, Home Secretary and Chief of Police may have had questions to answer. Plus the FA, Sheffield Council and Sheffield Wednesday possibly have liabilities

You should add the now-deceased Sheffield MP Irving Partnick to the list of ignominy. He did more than anyone to organise the conspiracy and spread the lies, including upwards to Thatcher.

I thought authorities were always fair, told the truth and didn't protect their own interests instead of the public good?
And that the media was on the side of the people and didn't conspire to support the official line?

Nothing short of outrageous that the Government of the day was involved and that newspapers werr doing the bidding of one of this countries most evil prime ministers. Somehow I don't think this is finished with yet. Every football clubs supporters should have some sort of protest over this. I'd like to know what could be done in regards to protests.

Ah so we'll just throw accusations and speculations around on here instead then eh? That'll help Oatcake posters talking about hillsborough never get anything wrong do they? Where have I done that? You haven't mate The point i'm making is that we go off down the route of discussing who is to blame for the way the police behaved in general at the time then this thread will degenerate into another famous oatcake hillsborough thread of insults, abuse, speculation and conjecture and you know it will....it always does. All i'm saying (as werrington did at the start) is that this thread doesn't deserve to be dragged down to that. Start a new thread for that by all means but this thread is about an inquest that saw the fans on the day as NOT doing anything to cause the tragedy. How fans behaved at other games over the years doesn't have any relevance to the findings of this inquest. Surely it's not a tough thing to ask of people is it? Just to have a bit of respect at what is an albeit long overdue victory for countless people who have spent a massive chunk of their lives to get here? If that's asking too much then i really, really do despair at what's happening to the way some people think nowadays.

Justice. Finally. So much respect to Anne Williams and the other families for taking on such a huge battle. Every football supporter should be celebrating this verdict today, there but for the grace of God go all of us.

This is hugely important Cheadle was under the impression many tickeless fans turned up other fans believe many were pissed & other myths/lies have been propagated as facts as such unless you are paying full attention it's logical to assume the fans were in part to blame Howvever once you realise,as Cheadle has, that he has been lied to & that there was no misbehaviour, there we're not many ticketless &/or drunk fans (Liverpool fnas were very late because the motorways we're buggered,as such they hadn't had chance to go the the pub before nand,as such there we're far less drunk fans than normal)e.t.c once you realise that it was all part of a desperate & comprehensive cover up then regardless of what anyone thinks of Liverpool FC & it's supporters it is surely logical to become very angry indeed. This could have happened to any of us. It almost did happen to us which makes the fan blaming more sickening. On the 31st January 1989 Stoke played an FA Cup replay at Barnsley. Thousands of Stoke supporters arrived late due to traffic congestion. Outside the ground a crush developed and people were getting hurt. The initial response was to send a police horse running through the crowd which only exacerbated the chaos. To ease the congestion the police opened one of the huge exit gates which allowed the crowd to enter the ground free of charge. This was the response the same force used two months later at Hillsborough. Had there been more Stoke supporters on the away terrace that night we could have suffered that awful disaster. Same situation, same police force, same reaction. We, like all football supporters, were actually riding our luck, not just on that night, but for so many years. There was very little consideration for the issue of crowd safety over crowd control. It could have been any of us with the loss of life….. and the same scandalous tabloid lies. It nearly happened to us two months ago Joe, at Anfield for the second leg of the semi. Very similar circumstances to the above. I think we are still waiting for an apology from Liverpool. Lessons haven't been learned.

Nothing will ever bring them back, for those that died there can be no justice.
For them the fact that they will never be forgotten is the best outcome possible.
I hope there can be a memorial plaque to them at Every ground, so that no one ever forgets them.
The pictures of police on horseback charging miners brought back sad memories of the 80s for me. They were Thatchers Storm Troopers waging war on their own people.
If ever there was anything that should unite the fans of ALL the clubs then it is Hillsborough, These people were not just Liverpool fans they were All our fans as this tragedy could have happened at any ground in the 80s,such was the contempt of football fans shown by the authorities.
I hope the victims families can find a measure of peace in the vindication of their loved ones and I pray this country is never as divided again as it was then.
Maybe now they can finally RIP.

Once again the police service of this country is disgraced. Whilst the vast majority of ordinary bobbies are well-meaning and in it for all the right reasons, there are far too many bad eggs at every level - one bad egg would be too many and there's far more than that.
To those few rotten bent lying cunters: I hope with all my heart that each and every one of you gets an especially unpleasant comeuppance.

That's unnecessary and inappropriate. Will you delete the post please? Sorry, but why exactly is it? This is a message board and those two argued long and hard that Liverpool fans were to blame. They werent the only ones. They weren't shy of voicing their opinions then and I'm confident they'll either be completely absent from this thread or try to defend their original positions if they show up. Wonder of wonders you might even get one to publically accept being wrong but don't hold your breath. Meanwhile if it helps people form opinions on their other posts then that's probably a good thing. They might claim that their original posts were altered without their knowledge!

At long last the truth is starting to come out. Still two investigations going on to report at the end of the year. As others have said, those of us who were around at the time were regularly treated disgracefully, I don't mean troublemakers, ordinary peaceful supporters.
I know it may not go down well in some quarters but it would be a great act of solidarity for "you'll never walk alone" to be sang at all the home matches. A one off, not supporting Liverpool but commemorating the 96 who died.
