Very good metalhead Seeing your leanings to neoclassical, this might be to your taste Metalhead These guys used to be a decent hard rock band, until they started singing about medicine which had gone bad and beds covered in roses and all that bullshit......

cant go wrong with Metallica
Ive gained a new taste for And Justice For All since Ive found the Youtube versions with the enhanced bass so you can actually hear Jason Newsted now - its like a different album; I love very prominent bass ala Maiden so this is music to my ears - it really clanks & rattles along
Here's a taster
And the full album with BASS!
Here's the excellent Beyond Magnetic EP with the songs that didn't make Death Magnetic
Here's a GREAT cover of Fade To Black - love this guy's voice, great band are Sonata Arctica when you want something a tad more melodic
And I don't like a lot of modern metal but Trivium occasionally surprise me
More than enough for one visit!!

It's an Edumication Trent. I'm just not very metal. I don't think. Tell me where I'm going wrong with this mate.

I didn't like Death Magnetic at all. Actually, other than a few sporadic tracks, I've not liked any Metallica since the black album. Load and Reload were pretty much dross, St Anger was awful, Death Magnetic was a bit of an attempt to hark back to the good old days, but it's very watered down. Lulu was horrific.
I'll check out the EP though.

Some old school Death Metal here
This one is a killer; the outro guitar is the dogs bollox and the way it samples the music too from Phantasm!!

Something very different now, that I think Metalhead might enjoy.. Some proper speed metal from the 80s
You might like these Metalhead, Primal Fear - bit of a Germany's version of Judas Priest

I like Entombed, but my ear isn't properly attuned to DM, if I overload on it it all starts sounding like Discharge who've had a wash and welded a riff on top. {Which may not necessarily be a bad thing.} Generally with metal I don't like the middle ground. Heavy, shredding and slightly ridiculous not technical, is how I like it.
I'll have a pick through the newer 'orchestral' stuff you posted later.. cheeers Trent.
Been fitting a bit of Maudlin of the Well into the tracklist this week. Can only take it in small doses though. Quite heavy.

You guys might find this amusing
I love this band, got all their albums BUT this video cracks me up everytime, the antics from the singer & all the macho posturing; its as if George Clooney had bulked up, put a bandana on, got tatts and landed a part in Prison Break!

Did Download on Friday and got a right feckin drenching - complete mud bath and organisation is getting worse by the year while the beer gets more extortionate - 5.50 a pint of Trooper.
Korn and Killswitch were good though and Rammstein *awesome* (again) - so well worth the trench foot but not sure I can manage it again at my great age - it's for them whipper-snappers in their 30s and 40s!!!!

I've been saying I will go for about 10 years, yet I still haven't. It's not so much the price (which is pretty extortionate as you say), it's just the whole living conditions. The fact you spend about 4 days, having no shower, living like someone in a third world country and just generally feeling like shit by the end, all put me off totally. I'm sure it can be a lot of fun, but as someone who actually cares about showering, I think I'd fucking hate it after day one. Tune.

I don't know if folk here watched the excellent Metal Evolution series? It covered the whole history of the genre but was criticised for ignoring the Black Metal & Death Metal sub genres, having covered glam, thrash, nwobhm, progressive, grunge etc.
Well that wrong has been righted!
This 'lost' episode has now been produced featuring the original narrator - will be watching this myself
Some of the earlier episodes, pity I cant find the Thrash Metal one?!

Tune. what really pissed him off was he let his mate book it, his mate delayed booking and ended up having to buy a 5 night package when they were only there for 3, when my brother first checked, the Radisson hotel up the road was doing a weeknd package with transport in every day for £700 for 2, which was £100 less than the £800 they paid.

Ive heard there's been some hoax photos doing the rounds showing the flooding at levels like something in Day After Tomorrow?

I was at download festival yesterday. It was a mud bath all over the concert site. Rivers of mud running down from the entrance down to the main stage. Despite the shit weather it was really warm, so I had to have an ice cream

So who do we prefer:
Metallica or Megadeth
or
Me? I'm Megadeth.

I have to be honest, I haven't bought a Megadeth album since 1990s Rust In Peace. I was put off by mixed reviews, Ive heard some of the albums are very plodding, mid paced affairs.
However ive got basically everything Metallica has ever done; now id be first to admit it too is a mixed bag!!
I think for me, I prefer Hetfield over Mustaine's nasally whine; I really think they should have got a real vocalist
So, Im going to say Metallica based purely on the vocals and the fact I just don't know 'Deth after 1990. If there are any albums that I can be recommended I might be willing to dabble via Youtube..
Fact is there were other thrash bands, particularly in the Bay Area who were just as good as both the above!! The likes of Death Angel & Testament.
Metallica and Megadeth simply got a head start
Thoughts on Slayer & Anthrax welcome...

Everything before Youthanasia is gold imo, well, excluding their first album which suffers from terrible production problems (partly because they fired the producer to buy drugs). Peace Sells, So Far, Rust In Peace, Countdown are all absolute gems though and are well worth listening too. Youthanasia is good, but for me is where the rot comes in a little. I think there was a lot of in-fighting in the band at this point, in particular between Mustaine and Friedman who seemed to be at odds with where the band should go, musically.
Thus, the next few albums polarize opinion. Cryptic Writings for me is actually a better album than it's given credit for. It was Mustaine's attempt at writing heavy metal for the masses and in my opinion, it works, because there are some great tracks on there that aren't thrash metal. Trust, Sin, A Secret Place, I'll Get Even, She Wolf are some of my favourite tracks. Then we have Risk, which was actually named after Mustaine's feelings upon hearing the album in the studio. Sure enough, it's as far away from a Megadeth album that you'll ever hear. It's sort of poppy alternative rock with elements of funk. That said, I don't hate it, but I can see why people do. It's weird.... if it was released as a different band, I reckon it would have been a genuine success.... but it wasn't, this was a Megadeth album, and fundamentally, it sounded nothing like Megadeth. If you judge it as more of a Mustaine solo album (because I believe it's all Mustaine's idea) then for me, it's worth listening too.
Subsequently, Friedman quits the band and Mustaine starts the revolving door of random guitarists who come in, do an album, then piss off. I think the rot has really set in by this point and this is when the quality begins to drop. The World Needs a Hero does absolutely nothing for me. It's thrash, but it's mindless thrash and just isn't worth the time of day. The System Has Failed is improved, and includes Chris Poland on lead guitar, who played on the first few records. Blackmail the Universe, Kick The Chair are pretty solid tracks. However, United Abominations for me is when Megadeth really get back to their best and in my opinion, it's probably the best thrash album for 20 years. It's a real winner imo. Endgame was popular, but didn't do it so much for me although it has a few good tracks. Thirteen is a decent listen. Super Collider is crap. Dystopia is decent.
