Is Imbula playing in the right position? He has neither the strength, positioning, heading ability, tackling ability or discipline to track back required in the Prem. He looks like another No10 to me. Apart from in all those games where he was outstanding...

£18m for a player who does everything half decent and nothing brilliantly. They didn't half see us coming....maybe he'll be better next season once he's settled and knows the PL more. I for one am happy to give him the time to show, but based on what I've seen so far, he's our biggest flop since Kitson. You idiot Really do know fuck all about football if you think he's a flop Based on what I've seen so far, he's not worth the £18m we paid for him IMO.

Let's write off another player after a handful of games eh lads? One which has already shown himself to be a fine player and contributed greatly in a few wins. Still, there's nothing a Stoke fan likes more than being able to stick the boot into an new player, especially one who has signed for big money. We'll see the best of Gianelli next season. There isn't a single person on this thread that has written him off, just people saying he had a poor game, which he did. Don't be so precious. I suggest you read again this thread. And yes, he was ineffectual today.

Imbula is a different player away from home
Regardless, he has had more impact than Nzonzi in his first couple of months
Even when below standard, he still looks like the real deal to me
Just seems to play with more freedom and attacking intent away from home

Oh my days just seen their first goal again, disgraceful defending from Imbula, he just stopped fucking running and couldn't be arsed. Like others have said he's superb with the ball but without he's utter garbage.

Definitely, but Hughes emphasises playing as a team and having wingers cover fullbacks so I doubt he'll put up with it anyways. Completely agree r.e. playing him DM, I mean if nothing else why would you limit one of our most dangerous players going forwards? Never disciplined enough, DM cover for Whelan would be my first summer signing personally. If he got injured early into the season we'd be in real trouble imo. G-Cam is the only player I feel could play that role.

We could have won the game easily if we hadnt stopped playing in the 2nd half. When you give a 2 goal lead away its unforgiveable we got what we deserved. Imbula had a bad day but to just slaughter him like this is wrong. I did think if Swansea scored 1 goal they would be capable of scoring a 2nd. The problem is when we go ahead in a game we stop playing thinking we have got the game won . We should have won this game comfortably but threw it away

At fault for the first goal? Probably yes. Did he have a below standard game? Yes. Was it terrible or just not up to the standard we are used to from him? Debatable.
Move on.

It's not often I agree with bayernoatcake but Imbula wasn't good. Caught on the ball a few times, plenty of jogging without running and just seemingly didn't get going. That said, he's done enough over the few games I've seen to show what a player he is. He's class. As I said, was due an off day.

I think a number of posters are thrashing out at anybody and anything because of disappointment and in some cases anger at the nature of yesterday's game. As MH has said it feels like a defeat, and he is in part to blame.
Attacking Imbula is therefore understandable, but some of the comments above are beyond the pale. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of football can see that he is a huge raw talent, but he needs a awfu lot of coaching to reach his full potential. Yesterday he was guilty again of holding onto the ball too long and has not yet realised how fast and aggressive the Premier league is. It is brilliant when he charges forward with the ball but he is not going to be allowed to do it in the Prem.; if he can't be dispossessed legally then he will be fouled and because he is such a big lump referees will let it go to keep the game flowing. Defensively he is very naive and guilty of ball watching, not keeping close to opponents, and not understanding what he team mates are doing. That will be corrected; just look at the change there has been in Arni is his defending; he showed no interest at all when he came to the club, but is now one of our best defenders when needed to help out.

Did anyone thing he was really negative yesterday with some of his passing?
Everytime he picked up the ball, he took an age to release it.
Not sure if it was because of the way Swansea set up in midfield? They seemed to cut out his passing options.
And yeah defensively he was all over the place. But I guess that's not where his strengths lie and I'm sure we are working with him to improve that aspect of the game.
(I'm not saying he's shit and we should get rid of him, before anyone pounces on me!)

Normally, and yesterday was no exception, disappointing performances are a culmination of a number of factors not just an individual. That said Imbula's display really did stand out as being particularly poor (this is probably reflective of the high standards he has set) - he was slow in movement and thought, negative and , as has been said above, showed a very poor attitude in his contribution to their first goal. All in all though he still has a lot of credit in the bank so let's just treat it as a 'blip' until we have evidence to prove otherwise.
