If Stones is the future then God help us. Have to agree Bayern. Just what the fuck has he done this last few months. Another example of the media picking the team!. Chelsea and Mourinho thought he was the future.

The press are falling over themselves to be the most pro-Stones. Lineker never shuts up about him. They must think it makes them look like football intellectuals who get the modern game? Not disputing for a second that he's a talented, graceful footballer - you can see that after a few minutes. But if you haven't got that defender's instinct, how the hell can you play centre-half?

That Jason Burt piece might as well be called 'Wibble'. Barking mad.

Writing off a 21 year old is a bit pathetic really, but then again so is saying a 21 year old is the final piece of the jigsaw.

Fair play to Chris Smalling, he's come a long way in the last 12-18 months. At least now he can claim to be selected as a genuine centre half, rather than part centre half/reserve full back.
Cahill, as the junior partner, he's ok, as the senior partner and supposed leader of the defence, shite.
Stones, talent, absolutely, brains, not seen any evidence of that.
Jagielka, pfft, decent back up but thats it.
But here's the main crux of it, there are no good centre halves, anywhere. You could count the world class Centre Backs currently fit and in their prime on the fingers of one hand.
This is essentially what we have and while we probably all think Shawcross should be in there, it's too late for that now. He needs to stick with the 4 he rates and get them working together.
Just like any international tournament, the quality of the team is far less significant than forming a cohesive unit. Defensively, at this point, he should be playing his preferrence back 4 from the start, every game. He won't though, he'll twat about with it in every friendly.

According to Burt, the criticism has been excessive with people focusing on his mistakes??
When a centre half makes so many last ditch tackles I think people are right to question his defensive prowess so bit of an odd statement to make is that......

Burt always goes over the top, I think he comes from the same school of sycophancy as Henry Winter, BUT he has a bit of a point. It's an English football supporters' trait - focus on what a player can't do instead of what he can do well. The same things were said of Rio and Smalling was slated not long ago. Now he's doing OK and has a decent season for Man Utd.

The biggest scandal is that it looks like Owl Face isn't going to take the opportunity to have a proper look at Vardy & Kane together over these games.
I think we may struggle to keep many clean sheets whoever plays at the back in the Euros but, if these two hit it off, we would have a chance against anyone.
Never understand the point of these friendlies if you aren't going to try something different.
Cue Rooney to waltz back into the side come the opening game, along with Mr Over-rated yet serial under-achiever Wilshite.

It doesn't matter Come Russia he will play wilshite and Rooney if fit. Probably Carrick and Walcott too. This could be a great young team he's ruining it. His interview today was all Rooney Rooney I think Wilshere in that side would enhance it. Henderson isn't very good and Wilshere instead would be excellent, he'd link the play much better. The problem is we all know it wouldn't be Henderson he replaces...

He should be playing the same team as saturday with just a couple of changes, probably leaving The-lama and clyne out. I don't understand why we would change things too much when this is an opportunity to get players used to playing together.

I don't understand why we would change things too much when this is an opportunity to get players used to playing together. In a nutshell. Why make wholesale changes when you know the team you select will never play together in a meaningful match? Surely you have to pick your preferred 11 and only make a change when you are forced to or make the odd change here and there.

Wasn't there some talk of Walcott having a knock? Probably the reason he's squeezing Lallana in there again
Jagielka is probably pissed off though as the only fit bloke who hasn't started.

Surely you have to pick your preferred 11 and only make a change when you are forced to or make the odd change here and there. As stated previously I'm sure clubs would not want their players playing 2 full games in a matter of days at this point in the season. I'm sure there will be arrangements with clubs. Also the gap between friendlies is long and players who were in form are not necessarily in form now vice versa, plus injuries, and that will change again by the time of the Euros so it makes sense to look at how members of the squad perform at this level. We have a lot of very inexperienced players who need experience at this level.
