Don't think it mentions a date? Could explain the Imbula signing?

Don't think it mentions a date? Could explain the Imbula signing? Yes, we might have bid for Witsel when Porto turned down our original offer for Imbula?

When he was playing in Belgium, he performed the most outrageously bad tackle I've ever seen. I'm sure someone will post a link to it. It's the sort of tackle that an Arsenal player would be proud of.
I could well imagine us seeing him as an N'Zonzi replacement, although that vanacy has been filled by Imbula.

Whit's it still be a runner in the summer? Although he can play in the Whelan role, he usually plays in the same position as Imbula - so I would have thought not given that we have Imbula and Afellay (and possibly Cameron) who can all do that job. We need a specialist Whelan replacement more.

He seems not to have made a habit of it, thankfully. But he was (in) famous for it a few years back.

Said tackle was on Marcin Wasilewski, now of Leicester, the last person who's leg I'd want to intentionally break.

Can't really see it happening now we have Imbula, but it would have been sexual. Delighted with Imbula though.

According to Zenit General Director they turned down a €16m bid from us but admit they probably won't be able to keep him come August. Would be Whelans replacement and looks a class above from when I've watched him. tass.ru/en/sport/862259

We need a specialist Whelan replacement more. Can't we have both ? Whelan and Cameron both in their 30's and Affelay has shown he is better in behind the striker. Nearing the end of his contract aswell I'd love him here, even if we do have bigger priorities right now.

If we had the resources of the big 4 clubs I'd love to have Witsel and Imbula competing for the same spot. But we don't have those resources and lining up a back up (and eventual replacement) for Whelan is more important in our midfield. As things stand we really don't have an alternative if Whelan picks up a long term injury but we do have an alternative (albeit not as good) if Imbula picks up an injury.

I think it was about 4 years ago That was when Zenit bought him wasn't it? I think it was this January when he had only 18 months left on his contract.

Get rid of the afro and he looks remarkably similar to Mr N'Zonzi... or maybe it's just me?
.. Anyway, he would be an unbelievable signing and therefore I don't believe it will happen.
