Creating more chances will only mean Diouf will miss more. As for him getting into those positions I think any decent striker would do that it's the minimum that's expected. In a tight game when chances are few it was sods law it dropped to the least instinctive finisher in our lineup. Next season we need to find better otherwise I can't see us progressing Let's create more chances anyway and put that to the test eh? The most frustrating thing is seeing our front four and trying to work out how on earth we don't make changes. The quality is crazy but yet we don't make as many as we should !

Joselu is our only striker that has produced anything this year and he plays the least.
Hughes drives me nuts sometimes.

Diouf is an away game player, he struggles when a defence sits deep at the Brit. Having said that, he makes a lot of decent runs and no one ever seems to pass to him.

Take it you didn't go or watch the match last week then. Diouf deserved too start today. See the problem we have is actually putting graft in and finishing chances, Diouf doesn't finish chances but grafts, if he did that he'd have 20 a season. Joselu is the better finisher but doesn't graft the way Diouf does. I didnt see much graft off diouff today, all I saw was the same as everytime I watch him, squander a good chance, anticipate nothing, and get the ball stuck between his feet.i think hes woeful.thats just my opinion, others like him I dont rate him at all.

I like them both. I wish they'd both have got 20 games each this season. Instead the constant chopping and changing has meant that the attack looks disjointed week in week out. A rethink in summer is needed, trimming down strikers would be a start. Diouf, Joselu plus a new striker would be suitable for the new campaign, with Telford etc on the sidelines.

I like them both too. But I can´t understand bringing Crouch before Joselu.
If Crouch is sent in he should win the headers when we put long balls into the penalty area, but yesterday he lost many against his opponent

Anyone else noticed the pattern? Whichever striker has spent a few weeks on the bench suddenly becomes the best option.
If that's not the sign of a team with no good strikers, I don't know what is.

He loses as many as he wins, which for a 6'7 target man isn't very good.

I think it's more the sign of people thinking the lack of goals is automatically the strikers' fault, and assuming that because we have a boatload of creative players we must be creating chances. But we're not.

A huge improvement since he stopped slapping people and started playing centrally, funnily enough. It's almost as if he actually settled and got better after a slow start

I have a conspiracy theory,
I feel that Jos gives us more chance of converting our chances in front of goal and suits our current style of play with the high balls in to the box and the chances to his feet, but Hughes is playing Diouf to put him in the shop window for a move in the summer to generate a higher fee.....
may be wrong but can only see Joselu being the only name from them two still in the squad next season.

Let Diouf have some games now despite being shit yesterday. He needs more games to sharpen up, but he will come good again!

It could be nutter, personally I dont think he had such a good game against Chelsea, granted he scored the goal but he missed chances that he really should have converted, also his starting place at Chelsea was when my unfounded conspiracy theory originated......right or wrong I still think he will be gone come August.

Joselu ?? How much did he cost??? If someone offers us anything for him in the summer I would snap their hands off. Sadly no one will be interested. Harsh but IMHO spot on

He got his spot against Chelsea because he'd done well against Newcastle. His did well against Chelsea - missing chances doesn't mean you've had a bad game, his movement was excellent and he won loads in the air and he scored. It was a no-brainer in that context to start him yesterday.

What a fail to understand is that anyone who has either been to or watched all the games this season (which i have) will see that Joselu has constistently offered something in a game.
Even as far back as Spurs where he won the penalty.
Assists, chance creation and goals in albeit a few starts and a few sub appearances.
The guy must be shaking his head wondering what the hell is going on.
He must surely have a run in the team.
Diouf, i don`t dislike the guy and see his merits but he will always miss quite a few.... whether his % conversion will be acceptable for the level we want to be at is up for debate.
As for why we aren`t creating enough chances, i feel we simply have to move the ball out quicker, the players are good enough but when we are slow, the other team simply read the play and stops us playing.....

Not getting in to a argument over it as it just an opinion but I have never said in any of my posts that he played badly, I thought he was bang average being Mama and missing chances that you would hope he would put away as per last season....or Just Diouf being Diouf if I am honest just an average player that scores now and again rather than being prolific, I do prefer to see Joselu playing rather than Mama not because Joselu is much better than Mamas average but I just feel we have more of a threat with Joselu as Mamas confidence is so low, as frustrating as he is I do like Diouf but as I said earlier I just cant see him being at Stoke next season and this run in the team is to get him in the shop window......I could well be wrong as I have no basis for this theory but with the two players being of roughly the same goal to game ratio it is strange as MH prefers Mama to Joselu if Joselu is his longer term plan in to next season. I think 3 meter Peter will be departing close season, and one from walters, Diouf & Joselu with one or two new strikers coming on board, our fire power is a cause for concern......especially alongside our recent defensive problems of shipping goals in the fashion that we have since xmas, even Norwich, Villa & Doncaster have managed to find a way through and all three teams are struggling at the wrong end of their respective tables What will be will be, onwards and upwards

To be honest I feel for any forward in our side when we play at home , they are feeding off scraps .
If you look at yesterday both sides had a forward with pace , The away side played with 2 up and used Long's pace by getting the ball to him early whenever they could so he could stretch us .
We never gave Diouf one decent early ball to run on to instead preferring to walk the ball from one end of the pitch to the other by which time he was marked and had no space .
At home we should play two out and out forwards and get the ball forward with a lot more pace and purpose to give them a chance

People seem to want a striker with brilliant movement every game, who wins everything in the air, creates chances for himself and never, ever misses. He doesn't exist.

Again, Diouf had one chance. One single chance. In 90 minutes of football, we created two whole chances. That goes with zero chances apart from a speculative shot from distance that the keeper should have saved against Newcastle, two chances against Villa and zero chances against Everton.
How is that the fault of the strikers?

In what way? He's new to the league and has scored some goals and had some good games? I don't doubt is ability as a footballer. I'd be over the moon if he proved doubters wrong and became an icon with us. However IMHO there is something missing at Premiership level, Leslie as an ex striker watches him in both training sessions and matches and yet consistently picks players in from of him to either start a match or to come on as a game changer. I'll bow at this time to his greater knowledge. I wholeheartedly agree that we don't create enough chances in a game which is putting one hell of an unfair responsibility whoever plays upfront

We're not creating chances at home regardless of who's up front. This is just wrong.
A quality striker makes runs, finds the holes and gaps in between defenders and DEMANDS the passes that make goals.
If it was just stand on the goal line until Shaq or Arni gave you a tap in MH would still have his boots on.

I'll try this again: When teams sit deep and don't give us any space, how is a lone striker supposed to make the runs when there aren't any gaps? And there aren't any gaps in large part because the rest of the team isn't making those runs in the final third either to open up the space, or they're ignoring the striker or others when they do make the runs and hold on to the ball too long?
