You are spot on . I don't need reminding about the mercinary nature of Premiership footballers and what's important to them . Its all very distasteful and shallow . Not only does it detract from the spectacle of watching your team , but also provides a valuable insight into their mindset . Not all players are like this , but in the main most are . You don't see many driving around in a Fiat Punto or Ford Focus do you ? Its all about me , me ,me .... If you earned the kind of money that Premiership players earned would you drive around in a Punto or a Focus? I don't think so. Many footballers are detached from the reality of the working man; so are film stars and pop stars. You may not like it but you have to accept it; its simply a different way of life than the vast majority of fans are used to. Just because they have very expensive phone covers and watches doesn't necessarily mean they don't give a shit and are happy to get on the pitch and lose. As for the "mercenary nature" bollocks - there are very few who would stay in the same job if there was a big pay rise on offer somewhere else. You and I might be a Stoke fan but realistically you can't expect a guy from Austria to have the same emotional attachment to the club that we have. If you had the opportunity to ever meet me then you would soon realise that your assertions were so far wide of the mark thqt they were untrue . It would no doubt apply to most people ,but not me . I dont follow the norm . I do drive shitty vehicles , I do not buy designer clothes , I have never shopped at Marks and sparks and have no intention to do so . I am not interested in material wealth or the adoration it attracts . As for your average Premiership footballer .... Or my particular income ....I am not remotely interested . I never have been . I hope that this resolves your quandry and doubt .

I'd love the brilliant Arnie to stay but that other asshole, that turns up instead of him two games out of every three, can go tomorrow as far as I'm concerned. I'll repeat what I've continually said about him. Probably one of the most frustrating players ever to pull on the shirt. Similarly, based on the vast majority of this season's performances, he can take Shaq with him. The pair of them drive me crackers.

Pay him what he wants, it'd cost £20m+ and £100k a week to replace him anyway.

Pay him what he wants, it'd cost £20m+ and £100k a week to replace him anyway. Not so sure about that. He's been very poor of late (come to think of it, they all have). I believe in pay for performance. I'd have them all on basic salary (you know, one they could scrape by on, like 15K a week!) and implement a bonus plan with 50% based on team performance and 50% based on individual goals (no pun intended). It wouldn't be too difficult to estimate the bonus pool because it is mainly determined by tv money, which in turn is related to League position and how far they go in the cups. Sorted!

Sorted! great idea in theory, but it needs all (majority) of clubs to sign up for it. Otherwise players wouldn't be interested at all. & of course, in exchange for the risk of a low (by prem standards) salary they would want a phenomenal maximum, like £150k p/w

He isn't worth a pay rise. Far too inconsistent this season. Yes, he shot 11 (10 in the league) inconsistent goals and made 5 far more inconsistent Assists. Do you think the same, if he breaks the Premier League record of 11 goals (Diouf/Fuller)?

When arnie has the ball I don't even get out of my seat. He may break the record but it feels very hollow.

If he doesn't want to sign fuck him.
Players come and go, we're still Stoke City.
Someone else will come along.

Inconsistent... he's our top scorer.. If he's contributing that much while being inconsistent it's fine with me. If he'd constantly performed every game he wouldn't be at stoke ..

Got a feeling he'll end up at West Ham to replace Moses. Even though Hughes preferred Moses over Arnie last season? Yes, and the result was 3 goals and 4 Assists for a winger.....and many injuries. A class output for a key offensive player This season his figures are even worse

Someone else will come along. Of course another player will come, but look at the other offensive signings of the last 3 years and name me one of them, who was better than Arni.

He obviously deserves a new improved contract, he's a much better player than he was when he first signed, we're obviously just too far apart money wise or the deal would be done by now
We're in a situation where he holds all the cards and he's got the euros coming up to put himself on the market, we might actually end up losing him to Leicester or West Ham which makes me feel nauseous

We also looked much better as a team than we have this year! Part of this was the pace that Moses had!
