Walsall home in an FA cup 0-2 defeat, 1966, like many on here I cannot recall my first away day, can't think why! I can remember that Walsall game, Bobby Irvine the Stoke goalie inexplicably kicked "Sniffer Clarke" (later of Leeds fame)and he scored from the resultant penalty. I think that was the last game Irvine ever played for us. My own first home game was as a 8 year old against Doncaster in 1956 I don't remember the score ,but I'm pretty sure Johnny King scored. First away game was against Burslem same season. Heyup grandad stokie. Do you remember one game against WBA when Jeff Astle was jumping about in front of Bobby Irvine stopping him taking a goakick. Irvine put the ball down, head=butted Astle and walked off!!! Brilliant days when football was a contact sport!!!!

Can't say I remember that particular incident rooster, but I can't say it surprises me, Irvine did nothing to dispel the myth that all Irishmen are quick tempered.

Man City home and away 1988/89 season.
Boxing Day home first coming back from 1-0 down to win 3-1; remember Kamara sliding home and Dave Bamber's first (?) for us
Away match 27th March, mate dressed up in a pink panther costume dancing in a layby as passing stokies beeped their appreciation after we'd lost 2-1. seem to remember a hell of a lot of smashed wooden seats in the stand we were in...
(Can't find any video)

I've had to look up the dates but I can remember seeing Tommy Younger in goal against Cardiff ( we lost 1-0) and having to play part of the second half on the wing with his leg strapped up (no subs in those days). The date was 9 April 1960.
The first away game was a second replay against the mighty Aldershot at Wolves ground on 6 February 1961. We won and then played Newcastle away in the next round and our top scorer Dennis Wilshaw broke his leg and had to retire.

Now there's a blast from the past Tommy Younger, I'd almost forgotten about him, if I recall rightly he signed from a Scottish club can't remember who, he must have been knocking on 40 and was about 16 stone (imagine a red haired Neville Southall in his later days),.He was absolutely useless for us and we soon got rid. However the story did not end there, after leaving us he signed for Falkirk and by some miracle became a very good goalie once more and I think I'm right in saying that he even represented Scotland again.

I seem to remember that Younger was on the large size. Another match I remember going to around the same time was a home game against Liverpool that was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch. I can picture Johnny King playing up front but not much else. Can't find any record though.

First home game my old man took me to was a nil-nil draw against Brighton on October 18th, 1980. Awful game, but was hooked.
First away game as a 5-1 hammering at Anfield on March 5th, 1983.

Can't remember my exact first home game it was late 77 but I do remember playing Tilbury in the fa cup followed by Blythe Spartans.
My first away game was a lot more pleasurable it was Notts County with 15+thousand other Stokies

First home match was in 2004 vs Millwall, first time I'd come to England to visit my extended family, my uncle took me to the game and although it was a dull 1-0 I fell in love with the club instantly, Greenacre scored and a couple of years later he turned up down here playing for Wellington!

Not claiming to have been there, but this is the earliest video I can find of Stoke playing a game. Says 1918, so it must have been a friendly. Just based on the clip, looks like we lost 0-2. Here's the challenge, can anyone find and post a link to anything earlier than 1918? The Mighty Mighty Potters take on Chelski in 1918

Love watching the old stuff, when players wanted the ball and take players on.
