We're now sticking the boot into a 22 year old goalkeeper in his first full season who has been brilliant for us, absolutely brilliant. Why? Because he doesn't save penalties. If it wasn't so shitty it would be laughable. I don't see anyone sticking the boot into anyone except you The criticism raised was of a constructive nature and certainly not meant to degrade Jack in any way I'm sure all of us appreciate what he's done for us this season and I personally love him to bits and by wanting him to improve in one aspect of his game in which he is clearly weak so that he can become an even greater goalie than he already is certainly does not translate into 'sticking the boot into Jack'

In Grobbelars book he describes facing a penalty against a prolific goal scorer. After the ball had been placed he waved his arms and walked to pick up the ball and put it to his ear. He then spoke to the ref saying he thought the ball was deflating. He placed the ball back on the spot walked back to his goal line then did his famous wobbly knees act. He didn't save the penalty.

My point is that he is a professional goalkeeper AND he will be getting coaching from another professional. The comments from some people would have you believe that penalties are saveable and that they wouldn't be beaten so easily. I'm prepared to bet that the experts offering advice have never stood in front of 28000 people and faced another professional who's been coached at putting them away. Funny you should mention that. Nor has our goalkeeping coach. Maybe that's where we are going wrong???

Are players beyond any sort of criticism on here without getting barked down from the regulars? It's something that can be legitimately questioned, almost all of his penalties and a slight drop to the right just before the balls kicked.
He's a fucking outstanding keeper and I couldn't be more comfortable with him in the sticks, which was differently to how I felt with Begovic during his first season as #1. But his technique / decision making / whatever you want to call it is pretty weak.

Come on..... really? Taking/saving penalties is always a lottery. Jon Walters had a history of smashing them to the right of the keeper. I remember we then got a penalty against the bandits, and their keeper must have been feeling fairly confident.... super Jon rolled it calmly down the left and we won 1-0.
To criticize Jack on penalties is very harsh. He still made a few good saves and apart from the third where he seemed to retreat you can't really put any of the blame on him whatsoever.

I think you'd find very few (unless they're a bit special) that would put blame on Jack. Keepers in the past have talked about reading up on players that take penalties or mixing up what they do during one. Jack just goes down to the right. I don't know, just feels like there's very little going in to save it. Whether he's been instructed to do that, I don't know. It's just a bit poor from an otherwise outstanding keeper.

Who is our goalkeeping coach? Andy Quy and he's very highly rated by all accounts despite not playing the game at any real level.
