I'd have made a couple of different choices b ut that's not my big beef. It's the lack of secure defensive routines, AGAIN, the inabiloity to stop the opposition playing, AGAIN - either it's not happening right on the training ground or it's not travelling from Clayton Woods to the Brit. Don't you think there seems to be a significant correlation in our prowess at the back and whether Ryan is available for selection? I don't think you can lay our inability to defend (specifically today) purely at the door of Sparky's methods on the training ground. I agree, Paul, that the problem may be less to do with training and more to do with the personnel available. However, the lack of defenders available isn't just down to injuries - it has to be down to a failure to strengthen in January. Before the window closed we knew that there were ongoing problems with Cameron, Ryan and Wilson and that Muniesa had a poor recent record with his hamstrings. Add to the the fact the Tex had been deemed by Fleetwood to be surplus to their requirements, and the combination of problems surely constituted a crisis which needed addressing in the window. I appreciate that permanent signings of the required standard might not have been available late in the window but, surely, a loan signing or two would have been available and would have been well worth the cost? The decision not to bolster the back 4 in January may not have been entirely down to Hughes but someone is to blame surely. I'm going to give Hughes a 4 - and he only gets that for the decision to start Imbula whose performance was the only bright spot in a really dismal performance. I'm not a wrist slasher, I don't think we'll get relegated (we have enough points to mean survival doesn't need many more) but in the space of a few weeks the season has turned to rat shit and I can't see us getting back on track with the back 4 players currently available. Ryan's return will be welcome but it will not solve all our defensive problems. For a start both our wingers seem to have forgotten that tracking back is an essential part of wing play. Johnson and Pieters are looking shaky at present but that isn't helped by total lack of cover from the players ahead of him.

You know it's bad when a gentleman like fornside starts tossing phrases like 'rat shit' about... Steady on Chief. I've spent ages building my reputation as a bit of a rough diamond who lives life close to the edge. Calling me a gentleman could ruin years of hard work!

You could argue that Hughes failed today because he didn't bring in some centre-half cover during the last week of deadline. I think that's a totally valid observation but not one that is specific today mate. [/quote I'm not sure we have adequate cover at centre half but he failed today because his tactics were wrong and Martinez got it right , don't forget their main centre half was also out injured

0/10.
I've given up even giving him a sympathy point.
No team shape, no tactics, non-existent set pieces, players who don't look bothered, tip tap crap ad nauseum, playing the woeful Shaqiri, bringing on the spent force Odemwingie, comedy defending, no attacking intent, etc, etc, etc.

This was very reminiscent of how we were playing at the begining of the season. Hughes picked what, on paper, was the strongest line-up BUT sent them out with no apparent game plan. Either the players did not know what the plan was or they couldn't put it into action. So when the plan wasn't working he made some bizarre substitutions that no sense to anyone (fans and apparently players as well). In addition to tactics, a big part of Hughes's job is motivation - I give him 0/10 for both. Dreadful performance all round. The only comfort is that he did get it sorted out in November and we showed some sparking form for a couple of games. This needs sorting pronto otherwise, he'll lose the fans and the players. I'm sure everyone was like me at the end of last season and couldn't wait for August. If we don't finish strong they'll be no enthusiasm for next season and key players will be looking for greener pastures.

3....the team looked ok although I would have liked Bojan up top rather than Diouf. Another bad day at the office which is now becoming the norm. Recent stats are quite worrying and we no longer bounce back from a poor performance. That's down to management motivation and player commitment both seem lacking and Hughes has to take ultimate responsibility.

3...for team selection. We thought it looked good pre kick off. His subbing Odie on was ridiculous. He's shown fuck all in the last 3 weeks.Ireland needs to start next week.
