I said this ages ago and got told i was wrong, we're light at centre back, we really are We've got 5 centre backs. One carrying a back niggle. One out for the season. One centre midfielder that can do a job there - also injured for X weeks, one injury prone one with ropey positioning and Big Phil, who has also gone off tonight injured.

Muniesa is never a centre back.
Again tonight he has shown it with his positioning in all three goals. Though he was excellent v Liverpool, he is just not someone you would play there if you have other options.

Shocking performance......which ever way you look at it .....it's four defeats in a row....where's this strong squad we surposed to have....again,half of them don't look bothered...... If you look at it as Liverpool 0 Stoke 1 that doesn't look like a defeat to me #confused

Can't we put Tex in? He's not very good but we are desperate at the moment aren't we. how do we know he's not very good he's only played 3 prem minutes Couldn't even play regularly in League One when he was out on loan.

To be fair Tex has looked decent at centre half in our two pre season. If Wolly is injured it kind of has to be him?

Wolly possibly sick rather than an injury? They had an ice pack ready for him. Probably a better remedy than the ice-picks some have ready for him on here.

Bet365 could always put the club into liquidation. It seems that things have reached rock bottom now, reading this MB.

Hopefully that doesn't sound to serious. Lets not forget we do actually have 6 CB's at the club (If you count Tex) with Ryan being the key. Clearly Wilson is out long term but we do have Muni and hopefully GCam, Ryan and Wolli to come back soon. When I looked at the bench it was clear if we lost a defender with only Bardsley on the bench we were going to be in trouble. I'm not too great but are any of the u21 CB's any good?

I really cant understand why we did not replace Huth, or why we got rid of him come that matter. We are woefully short in that area and have been all season, for me Muni/Cameron are not the answer at this level, so why have we not added pre-season or even replaced the loss of Huth. To add insult our captain has had long term injuries in both windows and we still have not been prompted to buy and with Wilson out in this window too, why have we not done something about it when we had the chance. I really think Hughes has lost the plot with his central defenders, he just does not seem to be aware of the problem we have there - I dont get it. With Wolly out who the feck are we going to play there now.

We replaced Huth with Wollscheid.
It isn't Hughes' fault that four of our top five centre backs are injured at the same time surely?

"On reflection, we didn't need a new centre back."
Yes we do. It's bad enough that whenever Ryan doesn't play, our defence play with the solidity of a wall of mashed potato. That we are left with Glen Johnson playing centre back strongly suggests that a centre back really is a matter of priority.

We replaced Huth with Wollscheid. It isn't Hughes' fault that four of our top five centre backs are injured at the same time surely? Wouldn't it be nice if we bought a proper centre back to play alongside Ryan, though? At the minute we've got a collection of centre backs who looks good when they play alongside Shawcross, but forget how to defend the minute he's not there to tell them what to do. We're not skimping or making do in any other areas of the pitch, and we certainly shouldn't be doing that at the heart of our defence. I fail to really see why having a second good quality defender with organisational skills to play alongside Shawcross and hold things around when Ryan's injured is seen as anathema.

Hughes looks a bit foolish now with his decision not to try to loan a centre back in this past window, especially after Wilson's injury. Hindsight 'n' all that, but our defence will be giving a whole new meaning to "makeshift" come Saturday.

This time last year when Ryan was injured, HUTH should have stayed, he was half of a very solid central defensive pairing. That was a bib big mistake by Hughes, But I'm over it and we just have to carry on ;-)
