My grandad was born and raised in Leek. Stoke fan. My Dad was born in Uttoxeter. Stoke fan. I was born and raised in Stafford. Stoke fan. My kids were born and are being raised in Stourbridge. Stoke fans.
To me it's a legacy. No idea where my grandchild will be born and raised but I expect they'll be Stoke fans!

Born in the Fanny Deakin in Chesterton., Lived my early years in Bagnall, Normacot, Boothen, Shelton and Ipstones. My dad didn't like football - he preferred rugby but my old granddad (bless him) took me to Stoke when I was nine. My destiny was set. Used to go rugby with dad when Stoke were away, but didn't enjoy it as much as going to the Vic with granddad. Port Vale wasn't an option, and I was probably 12 before I realised they were in the Potteries!!
Now I live in East Yorkshire and have my season ticket and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Both my daughters support Stoke too, of course....

I know a few Vale fans from that neck of the woods who are actually pseudo-Arsenal fans when the push comes to shove.
One thing I have definitely noticed though - there are a massive amount of fresh young Potters going through school these days...most kids in S-O-T schools are big Stoke fans thanks to our sustained Prem status. Get them corners filled in, we are gonna need 'em!

You would be a vale fan if :-
Your mum has no idea which one of your uncles is your dad.
You can count correctly up to 6 on the fingers of one hand.
S.T.O.K.E can never be mentioned without frothing at the mouth.
The Wembley of the north is seen as a pilgrimage to cleanse the body and heal the hump on the back and the chip on the shoulder.
You support the "Pride Of The Potteries".
You are a complete Bell end.

Born in the haywood,on a night vale were playing.had a lucky escape. Born there too. Lived first 5 years in Biddulph, my grandparents lived at 250 High Lane at the top of Hamel Road. Had a lucky escape, moved to Clayton and starting going to the Stoke Reserves with a friend and his older brother. Went to first First Team match in 1965 and never looked back. Used to visit relatves n Tunstall and Burslem until just a few years ago. Used to get stuck Vale traffic all the time, only ever went once to Vale, can't even remember why - obviously not a memorable experience.

One thing Ive heard a lot about Boslem is how good the pubs are up there especially if youre 40 plus?? I think Ive only ever been three times in my life, always day time when doing a bank run in my old job, never set foot in one of the pubs. Footie aside, is it a good night? In a word, yes. The Leopard/Duke William/Bulls Head/Post Office - all decent boozers, and there is a new craft/micro pub opened opposite boots (and another one to be opened soon by the landlord of the Marquis in Penkhull), Burslem is a great night out (especially for the over 30s).

I grew up in Chesterton and my dad was originally from the Kidsgrove area. My dads uncle took him to Stoke and I believe he was from Newchapel. My dad started taking me to the Vic when I was 7. Geography has nothing to do with my football allegiance, it's all about my family.

Always lived in Kidsgrove, dad's from Mow Cop, always Stoke never knew much about Vale until I was a little older.
Literally no one in my family of any link at all or distant relative is a Vale fan, I didn't know anyone who was Vale until I went High School

Born and bred Pottery (South side). My old fella was welsh (full blooded, North) who always had a soft spot for Stoke. Took me to my first home game when I was about 11 yrs of age. Coventry City. Always remember their sky blue outfit. Can't remember the final score though as it was in the late sixties. My affinity for Stoke came from the fact that all my best mates were Stoke fans growing up, and yes we all hated Man Utd even back then.

Packmoor lad me, when I was a kid I was able to walk to the Vale but in 1965 went to my 1st Stoke game. It is safe to say once I saw those Red and White stripes under the floodlights I was to coin a phrase 'like a Rabbit in a headlight. So what I used to do was to walk to the Vale ( Cullerton, Wilson, Poole et al) to get my footy fix whilst saving like mad to get down to Stoke ( McIlroy, Vernon, Allen et al). Once I had taken on a paper round to get the money together then my Vale days were over and it was my one true love all the way. I have to say that there weren't a lot of Vale around the area from Chell to Mow Cop, Vale do tend to be mainly from Burslem in my experience.

It says Burslem on the birth certificate as that is where the maternity hospital was, but lived in Hanley and it was always going to be Stoke City.

I remember Sir Stan's Testamonial and also remember seeing Pele score a free kick from 35 yards out in a friendly with Santos. I think we lost 5-1.

There is no Port Vale side of the city. There are probably more Stoke fans in Burslem than their are Vale fans. In fact, situated daily at the top of Hamil Road is a car fully decked out in Stoke City stickers and kits. We live in Stoke-on-Trent. Port Vale is not a place that exists. Yeah but that's probably more the johnny come latelies
I would have thought back in the 90s when the clubs were more evenly matched that wouldn't have been so? The north has generally always been seen as more of a Vale catchment
Youll find most Vale fans will play down anything with the word Stoke in it
That car is doing well, if that was reversed and parked up in Lonsdale Street or Campbell Road I sadly wouldn't give it long before some tool keyed it or worse
I wouldn't fancy reversing a car from Hamil Road to Campbell Road to be honest .

I was born and grew up in Newcastle. I'm not exactly sure how I became a fan - I think it was the season before Macari took over when I remember renaming players on Amstrad CPC football manager games to Stoke's from The Sentinel. I became more interested in football around the time Macari joined us for the first time, so the start of that successful period must have played a big part in getting me hooked, along with making fun of Vale (who I think had just been relegated?) and John Rudge to annoy Vale fans at school. I can't remember Port Vale ever being on the radar and I don't think I'd heard of Newcastle Town.
It's funny because when I was a kid, I was excited about Stein leaving for a Premier League club - a player signed from Stoke showing what he could do in the top division. But as I grew up I didn't like my favourite players leaving...

Born at the Haywood, lived in Handley Street Packmoor until I was 5. Then we moved to Norton, both pretty much Vale hotspots back then. My Dad took me to Stoke vs Leeds, the match where Greenhoff scored the winner in a 3 - 2 victory and I became a Stoke fan. I do admit though that I used to go to Vale one week then Stoke the next when I was 14 or 15. Stopped going to Vale for a reason I can't recall but never stopped attending Stoke games, ever. All of my mates were Vale fans too!

.... VR, on that note my 13yo daughter sent a message on Instagram (or something similar) to him who shall not be mentioned asking him to come back. Anyway, born in City General, christened at Hill Top Methodist Chapel in Boslem (no longer exists). All my mum's family are from Boslem. My dad was a Scotsman. My stepmother from Alsager's Bank. All Stokies. As many others did in the seventies went to watch the Vale or sometimes Crewe when Stoke weren't playing

Born Longton (Goms Mill), never had a Dad growing up but my Grandad was kind of a Stoke fan.... I say kind of because he tore up his ticket when Greenhoff left and refused to ever go back. 😂😂 Grumpy old fucker stuck to his guns too, though he follows keenly on the Radio and TV well into his 80's.
My kid was born in Preston and his mums family are all Blackburn supporters, luckily there wasn't any question from him and he wanted to be a Stoke fan as soo as he could ask for a kit.
He does want to watch more live football though and as there is no way he's going to Blackburn or PNE I am thinking about letting him go to Fylde FC now and then.
Which brings up the question, whats the script with a 2nd team.... Should they really be a foreign feeder team.... Or is a local small fry team ok?

I could see Vale Park from my house as a child in Burslem. I actually couldn't have been much closer. My dad and uncle influenced my football choice. All of my friends were vale fans at school (now Liverpool fans) but I was always a potter and was my Son Stanley who was born in Birmingham and lived in Kidsgrove.
