Just think in a world where the cost of virtually everything is rising, fuel, food, utilities, train travel etc to be able to have an escape for a few hours for £20 is like therapy for the mind. Not everyone works for well paid companies in fact the majority of fans are probably on minimum wage. If clubs are desperate for more money charge more in the hospitality sector, they can afford it. Make the game financially available for everyone.

Yes I was going to go to Birmingham but £30 + the £1 per ticket transaction fee was a piss take.I don't know why the club has bought out the transaction fee, especially for home cup games when they only have to load it on your card.

I went into the Stanley Matthews suite last Saturday as a birthday treat for my mum, £200 in total for the two of us, not everyone going in there is well off and some were like us, a once in a while treat.

The transaction fee will probs come from the company that hosts our ticketing system and the club are passing it on to us.

Not saying they are, but by the same token a lot of fans could not afford to spend £200 on a one off game as you did.

Maybe mate but it's a fairly new addition they bought it in the season before lockdown I think? It soon adds up over a season if your buying a few tickets though.

Stoke is not a wealthy area by national standards but the idea that most people are barely scratching by is a bit of an unhelpful stereotype. Here’s some stats about income in SOT and the surrounding area: www.plumplot.co.uk/Stoke-on-Trent-salary-and-unemployment.html

If i was on minimum wage i wouldn't think of going the game no way could i afford even one game a season Surely people on min wage have to prioritise and going the match wouldn't be a priority , i speak for myself obviously i could be wrong

Maybe mate but it's a fairly new addition they bought it in the season before lockdown I think? It soon adds up over a season if your buying a few tickets though. Probably won't be a popular view this, but transaction fees are a necessary evil. The extra quid per ticket or whatever funds the website, communication and payment infrastructure that makes online sales possible. And it replaces phone bills or time, shoe leather and petrol going to the ticket office. It's not the kind of service you can easily run yourself if you know the football business and not the IT business - websites have to be resilient against failure, interruption and fraud, and it's not straightforward to do, so the clubs will all be contracting out this stuff. On the other hand, one thing that does annoy me us excessive transaction fees. A quid on a thirty quid ticket is 3%, so not too bad, but concert tickets where you pay a fiver per ticket admin fee, where the infrastructure and transaction costs are fixed, certainly does feel like a rip off.

Absolutely. I think it's acceptable and wouldn't expect the club to absorb the cost of what should be an improved service for the fan. Maybe that's the capitalist pig in me though!

Isn't there a trade off though? Yes they may be incurring cost having third parties managing firewalls etc - however the more people that transact online and print at home the more the club saves on people answering the phone, manning the ticket office and posting tickets to your home - a service for which they never previously charged. Don't get me wrong - I don't expect the club to do stuff for free - but these are stealth costs introduced without notice that have never been explained at a club that makes a big thing about never putting its ticket prices up. I'll pay - but just be up front.
