I know we are in a good position in the league and I'm very happy this season overall.
But....
When was out last really good performance?
Our recent form suggests a while ago.
West Brom - Lost - Very poor display & tactics all wrong
Doncaster - Won - average to poor performance
Liverpool - Lost - Poor performance & wrong tactics
Norwich - won - Poor overall performance but managed to get a win in the end.
Arsenal - drew - ok performance - could of done better, could of done worse.
Leicester - lost - worst performance of the season.
Performances have been very worrying of late. We need to get back to full fitness and get firing again.

Man City at home was the last time and possibly the only time this season we've been really good for both halves.

Bear in mind the last 2 January's relegation was still a very real possibility .

So you don't rate the performance against Arsenal who went top of the league with the draw and but for a stellar performance by Cech would have lost by a couple of goals?

The physical rigours of the game vs West Brom have cost us that little bit of extra fitness in the games since.

Playing badly and 9th, 4pts off 5th place, 12pts clear of relegation and still only January! this season has been very hit and miss and I bet Hughes is scratching his head at times with some of the performances, fact is year on year we are improving under him, things could be alot lot worse

We're joint 6th in the 'last six' form table and have 13 points out of 18 in the last six at home. We've been playing well enough without hitting the heights we can.
Yesterday was a massive disappointment though. We were second best in every facet of the game.

We've been consistently inconsistent - from the sublime to the ridiculous. Sometimes in the same match!
On the whole it's been a great season so far despite what mealy mouthed know it alls say.

Think yesterday showed all the talk of European football is pie in the sky, we're way behind West Ham etc. We're better than last season but until we address the lack of goals we are going nowhere.

Are we better than last season? I think it's been very similar in terms of we're getting points but not playing that well. We have more in attack but the midfield can't control a gamer like it could last season. Bojans not as good but the wings are infinitely better.

I really do wonder what some people expect.

Indeed and your point yesterday that simply hounding Wilson was missing the point about the Leicester game was spot on too. The very essence of this season's Premier League has been the ability of every single team to look the real deal one week and dog shite the next. Certainly true of us. Some of the reactions we are seeing and suggested remedies are breath taking though.

Way behind as in 3 points? Wouldn't say way behind but any thoughts of Europe qualification via the league seem delusional, the reality is we are an inconsistent midtable side capable of decent performances and even more capable of performances like yesterday. We really have had way too many shite days at the office to consider ourselves top 6/7. I would say West Ham, Palace Leicester and probably Everton will all finish above us. Our best hope of euro qualification is clearly Tuesday rather than the league so glad Bojan and Arnie didn't figure yesterday, huge 2/3 games coming up

Take our best players out and we've struggled. There is much of a muchness around where we are.

Some of the reactions we are seeing and suggested remedies are breath taking though. You must see that we need another bastard winger though? Surely? I'm interested in bringing in any player in any position that is an improvement on what we have got. Another way of putting it is that I am only interested in seeing us make marquee signings who will be first team regulars and capable of improving the quality another notch. Whether that type of player becomes available in this window or we have to wait until the summer remains to be seen. Im definitely not interested in bringing in a sticking plaster who will be adequate for the short term while we get everyone firing again but will ultimately end up sitting in the stand or on the bench at best. We have plenty of them. As far as a winger is concerned that rule applies and when you consider that our most potent combination features Arnie and Shaq as the width supported by Johnson and Erik bombing on it is going to have to be some player to be worth our while. It certainly rules out players such as Townsend as I have seen mentioned. The club has enough makeweights to lose from the squad without kneejerk additions of the likes I have seen mentioned. We are not about needing squad players anymore. We are about upping the quality window after window. As I said it is going to be a hell of a player who will improve on Arnie and Shaq so if we don't bring in a winger I wont lose a moments sleep. A makeweight will only block the path of some promising young player or two.
