... fighting till the very end with the fans singing their hearts out. No more of the "roll over & give up" crap we witnessed against Watford. This was our chance to go level on points with Palace but we didn't take it. Not to worry, we still have 22 games to play. But 2 complaints I had today - 1) Shaqiri has to help Glenn Johnson more when we're defending. I can't recall just how many times Johnson was left 1v1 against Bolasie. 2) We desperately need a proper goal-scorer & a box to box midfielder. The former for obvious reasons & the latter for reasons which were made obvious today. In the 2nd half, especially after Whelan came off, the gap between our attackers & defenders was shocking. They were literally separated by a good 30-40 yards. In fact this was the exact same problem we experienced against Watford. When the opposition defends deep, our attackers keep pushing forward whilst our defenders, who're not gifted with a lot of pace, stay back & this leaves a huge void in the centre of the field, which is lethal against teams who stay back & hit us on the counter. We need a fast & energetic box-to-box player who can connect our attack & defence.
Other than that, I'm quite satisfied with our performance today. Next game is against a mediocre United team who can score goals. Stick with the false 9 for this game (and the game against Everton) & drop it against teams like Palace, Wes Brom & Watford.
And trust Sparky, he always finds the right balance.

I thought the reaction of the crowd was excellent at the end. Applauded the team off as if we'd won

Even when we lose we are looking a good team now, that's a massive step forward. I hope we see Van Ginkel start to play well because his selection over diouf, Walters and Adam does not appear justified at the moment.
These losses are possibly a good thing so the players don't get carried away and start believing their present hype before achieving anything.

Wingers have got to shoot more and be more direct, if we are not going to play a centre forward. It's ok getting past your fullback but when there's no one in the box it's pointless centring ,we have to decide which way we are playing, I think we are caught between two stools, we have wingers who centre but we have no centre forward , but don't really take defenders on and shoot, like Bolasie. He didn't really come off yesterday but gave Johnson a torrid time. You can see what being more direct does for you, with a team like Leicester getting loads of penalties because they go into the box at pace, we are forever checking back.We didn't play badly but not taking our chances is costing us big time.

Ryan even said anything less than a top 10 finish with the players we have would be a failure. Those voices in your head must be loud!

Considering we're such a fucking shit team (In your mind) it's staggering that we're 8pts clear of the relegation zone... To give that some context we're 6pts off the Champions League!

Play the best side in league off the park and win - player/manager insist 40 points priority.
Play a bunch of hoofers and lose - player/manager insist we're aiming for the top 10.
It's called managing expectation and is textbook modern day PL football speak.

Yes I keep all the interviews on sky and MOD don't you ?
Course I haven't got a link but if your that bothered search it out MOD I think with Gary L he said
Feet on the ground get to 40 points it's a perfectly sensible approach .
Someone round here needs to Keep their feet on the ground.
60 points , 4th , Pato , blah blah .

It was so stupid you were scared to take the bet. I also bracketed west ham, crystal palace and Southampton in with Leicester so in the context of the shit you were posting at the time, it doesn't look stupid at all.

Jonno
Your backtracking and its transparent your very good at giving it when your optimism is justified just accept with a bit of dignity you look off the pace on this one as we slip into the bottom half and Leicester pull away at the top .
Your view that we have Improved and they are coming back to us is blatantly wrong we all get some wrong I should know .

That seems very unlikely now and I'm pleased they are continuing their run. I hope they continue it all season long and go on to win the league. Still doesn't alter the fact that you wouldn't take the bet, just like last season when it was, according to you, arrogant to say we'd reverse early season disappointments v villa, Leicester and qpr.

But Dunna worry he and I know the score just focus on that bet We will finish above Leicester you must admit it's looking pretty stupid now . Let me help you out. This is the Internet. If you search for things you can usually find them quite easily. Ryan Shawcross was interviewed after the Southampton game by Sky. He didn't mention a target of 40 points once. He wasn't interviewed after Man City.

I don't make things up he said it in context but he said First target 40 points You must hear all sorts of strange sounds and voices in your head, Benji. I'm not going to mess about here. We haven't been a "40 points first" type of club for a few years now and I can't recall any Stoke players saying it recently or since Hughes arrived. It's all about records and high level targets these days.

Well done. You managed to supply a link. Not post-Southampton or Man City but I'll give it to you. He also said that the team want to break last season's points tally. Your opinion is that the team are going to struggle to hit 40 points. The manager and captain's target is to smash it.

One things for sure we have played some great football in both our last two home games. Yesterday didn't fall for us but Palace were damn lucky.
